"Yeah but we didn't cheat as much so it's OK for us!!!"

You can slice and dice it any way you like but it is still hypocritical. Thats fine, its just an observation not necessarily a criticism.

So a team that is $20 over the cap should shed half their roster?

It's the same thing, right?

Let's see how that looks in a cap compliant world:

1. Hayne $900k----> 700k
2. Semi $500k --->$300
3. Jennings $650k ---$600
4. Taka $350k ---$ 250
5. Gutherson $250k (2017 only)
6. Norman $800k ---> $700
7. Foran $1.2M

$4.65M above leaves $2.45M for 18 more players (average of $136k each)

Add in:
Mannah $400k
Scott $450k ---$350-400k was pretty ordinary last year
Ma'u $300k ---$250k
Edwards $300k ---> 250k
Moreoa $200k
Pritchard $200k? after 3 yrs on injuries doubt be more then $130k

Another $1.85M so $500K left for 12 players (average now $50k each)
Not enough...

Of course all my numbers are made up but might be close... who knows.

Not sure if we could fit Hayne in, here is a potential guess for 2017:

1. Hayne - $1 million
2. Gutherson - $200k
3, Jennings - $600k
4. Taka - $250k
5. Semi - $250k
6. Foran - $1 million (depends on whether TPA’s are added into the cap)
7. Norman - $750k
8. Mannah - $150 (full contract not included as has long service)
9. De Gois - $150k
10. TBC new signing - $250k
11. Scott - $500k
12. Manu - $250k
13. Moeroa - $250k

14. Pritchard - $150k
15. Edwards - $250k
16. Peni - $150k
17. Wicks $150k

18. Gower - $150k
19. Vai - 90K
20. French - $150k
21. Tyrell - $150k
22. Alvaro - $120k
23 Falou – 120k
24. Kelepi - $90k
25. Twal - $90k

Total - $7.24 million - yes over the cap by approx $350k

Second tier

26. Cornish
27. Hasson
28. King
29. O’brien
30. Ualesi
31. Nelson
32. Woods
33. Faraimo

Obviously just a big guess. We are over the cap, so not sure if we can’t afford Hayne. We may be potentially close.

Update - oh yeah also depends on what TPA's the NRL add to our cap

For me to land Hayne its only on a cut throat deal of maybe 600-700k and someone like Moss to come in with a HUGE TPA. Bank roll him.

If anyone is going to attract TPA's its Hayne. Id say TPA's + sponsors would be close to 1.5 - 2 mill on own. Not sure if the league money would be a huge factor.

Our cheating is not unacceptable there is no doubt about it!

The Storm managed to keep together 3 of the best players of the modern era in the most important positions! They're cheating was exceptional!

We've kept no one and got one marquee player in by throwing the LC at him (who now looks busted). We lost Hayne and Watmough. Our cheating has been abysmal!

Weren't the Knights found to be like 400k over the cap after they beat us in 2001?

For Hayne the choice is -
New challenge - French rugby - Deff Possible.

Roosters - Cash in but all the media would be going on about uncle Nik.And it was already set up - Most fans would not get behind him as much. I wouldn't cheer for him playing for another team.Only in origin.

Parra- The prodigal son returns to save the Eels. Stays true to his word- And go down as the greatest player to ever wear the blue and gold. Would be seen as a great story and a legend of the game rather then a SBW story.

I find it hard to think that Hayne could come back in on massive coin. He's had over 2 years off at this point, no? He's also spent that time training in a style that probably isn't very well suited for RL, NFL training is all about sprint and burst, not about endurance.

He'll need to completely re-train to get back in RL shape, now, I'm not saying that'll be hard for him, far from it, but it will still need to be done, and it essentially makes him untested in a way. Which should bring down his value.

Competing in the 7's will be actually be a good thing for him, and should get him get back into RL mode.

But no way I see him singing for $1m+ I'd say the $700-800K mark sounds about right as a max payment.

He'll get TPA out the arse too, so it's not like he'll have to hand around Chruch street mall asking people for 50 cents or a spare ciggie...

He'll get it simply because clubs will be falling over themselves to market and use his name. It's a business and a world name brand is invaluable to a club.

I guess it all depends on how true his "Eels or no one" stance is...

Would he take less to play with us to help us with the cap, or is he going for the bucks.. That's the unknown variable at the moment.

He's shown before that money isn't his main concern, and he's maintained that all the way through, so who knows?

He is getting older, and chances are, the next contract he signs may see him to retirement (I imagine whoever gets him will sign him for a long time), so maybe he will go for the payday...

Could we do like 600K for year one, then up the amounts in the following years, as cap space allows? Do they allow that in NRL contracts?

I think you guys price Gutho too high.

He came over as a injured 3 NRL game player right?

I reckon $100k a year for 2 years.

I think they have changed it so you can't heavily backend contracts anymore but not 100% sure. A lot of players will take less per year though if they are guaranteed a longer contract. So he may take a 100k or 2 less if he signs for 4+ years for job security. Not that he needs that I guess.

I am positive he will talk to Parra first and depending on that conversation it will determine what he does.

If we genuinely can't fit him in and then he goes somewhere you can't really blame him.

I'm not convinced he'll come back to league at all to be honest. He should go back to the NFL on a practice squad after the Olympics imo, but French rugby will probably be his next stop.

Don't think he will go to Union.

I did some calcs based on my estimates and came up with a top 25 at $6.88m. Cap is $7m next year, right?

Hayne on $600k (what Roosters have spare)
Jennings on $700k
Norman $700k
Foran $1.2m
Mannah $150k (long service allowance)
New prop $250k
Scott $350k

Plenty left over for the others. The real concern is how much TPAs will be added to the cap next year. That is what we have to fight.

Whoever The Plane plays for, he will have to go on the salary cap at whatever he left the NRL at. The precedent has already been set with Sam Burgess.

The question is, how much was he on the salary cap for?

Last night on NRL360 Paul Kent said that Hayne was a failure at NFL.

Benji & Ennis disagreed and went through the numbers of rookies, draft candidates and the real odds of any one person actually starting an NFL game.

Kent was squirming in his seat.

Think you will find Jennings has a legitimate TPA with Nike so he may only be on the cap for $500k.
The advantage we have with getting Hayne is 1) he wants to come back to parra if he plays NRL again, 2) would take a little less to come back to parra and will have no problems getting his own TPA's. 3) we have a lot of players off contract who would be on $150K + who we could replace with some juniors on less than $100k to find to room for Hayne. Would hurt our depth a little for a couple years but also improve the development of some of the juniors.
It's doable as i can see it provided we have not too many injuries with Hayne added we could be a Premiership contender (would have been this year without all the other crap)

Funny how the Telecrap have now turned on Hayne, they rode the wave last year when he was in the 49er's team, some reporters even went on junket's over to see him play, they said he is one of the greatest modern athletes in the world, now he's a failure.???
I didn't even watch 360 last night, over all the agenda driven crap.
Watch if Hayne signs for another NRL club other than us for 2017 then he will be the greatest again, but if he signs for us then we have cheated and the parramatta books should be looked over again again, etc etc etc , its like a broken record.
