At this point there no reason not to add him in, they add college draftees, he's no different really.

Didn't realise that, my copy of Madden is circa 2003 !

Still, he would have to be massively chuffed.

I heard people joke about this when he went over but don't think anyone would have expected to come true so soon.

To me, that show reel highlights Hayne as peerless at fullback. The modern game's supreme No.1 and way ahead of Slater IMHO.

Discussion worthy however is the fact that his rep career was patchyt as he only featured in 11 games for his country from 2007 to 2013 - none at fullback.

For his state he played 20/24 games 2007 to 2014 with 14 on the wing, and only 6 at fullback.

An inconsistent player or a victim of his versatility ?

Parra Pete and/or others might correct me if I'm wrong - but our other peerless fullback, Ken Thornett, was probably a victim of his lack of versatility. He only played fullback, so he had to contend with the likes of Les Johns, Keith Barnes and, later, Grahame Langlands (I think).
Anyway, it's interesting to note that, as good as he was, Thornett's representative career was limited as well. There are many similarities between the two players.

Victim of:

Playing with awful halves and dummy halves most of his career;
Playing under poor coaches;
Playing for a cellar dwelling team;
The worst selection decisions imaginable by NSW over a very long period of time;
Jealousy from his own supporters some of whom wanted to bring him down as selfish or lazy which his nsw and 49er teammates know is complete horseshit.

Which is why he was probably the most underrated player of his generation even though he received plenty of accolades.

Bartman hated him I think because he clashed with Anderson or possibly because he played his best when 3P came in. That's just f**ked in the head.

HJ had a campaign against him which IMO was just attention seeking and trying to generate attention based in hayne's profile.

I totally agree with every word you've said here. Especially that he was underrated.

Yep, Bigfella, I wanted attention on an internet forum from people who, most likely, I'll never meet. It's how I roll.

Statistically, considering the vast majority of the world is filled with brainless idiots, the truth of the matter is you're all just circlejerking sheep who do what you're told.

Well, Jarryd is certainly not underrated by most in this thread :)

He's certainly one of the best players I've seen....but it's bloody hard to compare players across eras (e.g. Kenny) or positions (e.g. Andrew Johns....however much of a dick he has been). What exactly is being compared, raw ability or demonstrated influence on the game? Tough one.

I watched NFL Live now 2 nights in a row. They talk about the 49ers a lot.

Not Jarryd but.

I loved Ken Thornett as a player. He was my idol, still is. He ignited the passion for Rugby League in me - and it is a passion I still possess now. Rugby League opened up a whole new world for me, and for that I will be forever grateful. I have made many many friends from all over the east coast of Australia...and I also made a living out of reporting and writing about it (as well as other sports).
Watching the highlights reel on Jarryd Hayne, I think he might have just moved ahead of the Mayor as my 'new favourite' Eel.
But I am in awe of both. It is impossible to compare players from different eras. Just know that watching both give their soul to the Parramatta Club has been worth the ride.
PS....along with the fullbacks of the Ken Thornett era that you mentioned above Ivor..don't forget Darrell Chapman (Souths) Don Parish (Wests) Brian Carlson (North Sydney) were fairly handy No 1s also....and throw in Bob Batty (Manly) Kevin Longbottom/Eric Simms (Souths) Brian Graham (St George) Ronnie Wright (Newtown) Straw Andrews (Easts) Frank Drake (Qld) and competition for representative spots in The Mayor's time was pretty hot...much the same as it is now with the quality of fullbacks in Club teams..

Yep, Yep, Yep, Pete, totally agree with all this. Ken, fired the passion as did Ron Lynch and Ken's brother.

Hayne's reaction to The Mole's story that he's telling friend & family that it's a done deal ?

Disgraceful journalism.

Moley was just stating the obvious apparently. I mean jumping from Hayne will make the 49ers squad to he's rung his family and confirmed it is just logic. :sarcasm:

Hayne wouldn't even know if he's made the squad yet.
There would only be a certain number of players who would already know they are in the team - certain starters. Hayne is still fighting for a position and showing what he can do.

The Mole is just playing the percentages, guessing that Hayne is a very good chance of making the squad, and making up a story to make it sound like he's in 'the know'.

Spot on.

And if he makes it, I'm sure the Mole will say "I told u all so"
