I can't argue with that Baz.
There is definitely an imbalance in the draw each year. The Niners have a tough one this season playing the AFC North teams plus they are in one of the toughest divisions themselves - have to play Seahawks, Cards and Rams twice each.

But that's because there are just so many teams over there.
Not as much of a problem here. Each team plays each other once, then have the Finals.
No divisions or conferences. Just straight-up wins and losses
.

I know where you're coming from, but I think a 15 week regular season in the NRL would just give a massive strategic and financial advantage to the AFL (and to a lesser extent rugby).

The NFL have no direct footballing competitors of material relevance. Sure the overlap the baseball and basketball season, but that's not a big deal for them.

The fact there are only 4 teams in each division cause that issue. The Panthers got in with a 8-7-1 record last year or something and the Eagles (and others) missed out who had a better record.

Player burn out and injuries are a good reason to reduce the NRL is the only thing I think.

It might get more fans to each game as well.
If you know that your team will only be playing at home 6 times in the whole season you might be more inclined to attend.

But it's likely we would end up with less fans attending games overall though. It's never going to happen.

even if we went 2 conferences, play the other conference once and your own conference twice, that would be 22 rounds and better than the current 26. use the extra weeks for Rep footy.

My preference would be to play each team once over 15 rounds. Home year 1 away year 2. The premier competition could then be suspended for a period where a second competition could be run similar to the old Amco Cup. Not necessarily mid week but a competition that would have some different eligibility rules eg, team must comprise 6 Under 21 year olds, etc etc. It could be 4 quarter footy, trial proposed rule changes etc. SOO could also be run and won during the suspended period.
Dosent the UK have 2 separate League Competitions?
Just a thought but it appears the movers and shakers are rarely prepared to look outside the box.

Yep.
The NRL should really be looking into cutting down on the amount of games as well.
Makes every game even more meaningful. Hard to have a few poor games and then still make the playoffs.

have the grand final in July?

The game would die with anything under 24 rounds. Too little TV time, so too little money.

Too much ground would be given to rival sports, too.

Not only is it not going to happen, it shouldn't.

If the NRL competition is reduced that should only be because the international window is enlarged, and to such an extent that there are multiple games across the weekend to fill TV timeslots.

Start the season later, and finish it earlier.
The season starts too early in the year as it is. Can't be good for the players to be running around in high-20s temperatures (and the occasional over-30).

Don't NFL players do so at the start of their season? with the extra baggage they have to wear as well, that cant be good either..

That's bullshit HJ. The game should go back to part time chippies and garbos punching the merkin out of each other in the mud.

Maybe they should do a top 6 with 7th and 8th beeing a wild card.

7th goes to the team with the best for and against of the remaining teams and 8th goes to the team with the best 2nd half of the year record.

Makes teams hungry to stay in games for for and against reasons and also a team like Manly this year whos form was better in the back end of season due to injuries early on are more a chance of doing something in the finals then say a dragons sharks or souths team.

If your start of the year is ruined by injuries you can still have something to play for come mid season. And you want the form teams in the finals not the teams who start well and fade as the season goes on.

I agree - but I think the bigoted ones can bat for either side, if they criticise those who don't agree.

If you believe in God and shame those who don't, you're a bigot; if you actively (and this isn't a dig at you, Korny, but a comment at people in general) ridicule those who do believe in God, you, too, are a bigot.

As long as you don't hurt anyone, do what you like imo.

Exactly. A difficult ideal to live up to (we're all bigots at times), but you're absolutely right.

I know many people who have very strong faith. Never had any issues either way.

I don't really care what anyone believes, that's their business. When I get shit on for not believing or having a different opinion then I get annoyed.

I am actually fascinated by faith, not positively or negatively either, just fascinated. It must be very comforting to truly believe that something has your back like that. I'm just not wired that way. I have been let down too many times to believe in anyone/anything other than myself.......and even then I'm a little shaky.

I'm fascinated by Atheists. Same as you, not necessarily judging them. I just can't get my head around the idea that there is no God - and, particularly, that there is no life after this one. It doesn't make sense to me on any level. One of the fascinating things I've discovered about Atheists is that they are generally very social, warm, caring people who are very principled about most things. If there is no God and no additional life after this one, what the hell does it matter how you behave in this life? Fascinating. (But probably too small a sample size.)

Without meaning to cause any offence, if the only thing motivating one to be a decent person is the threat of divine retribution in the after life, things don't appear so cool to me.

It is pretty tricky for societies to organise themselves such that individuals are prepared to act against their animal instincts (at least in the short run).

My perspective is that I don't think there is a traditional god, but it there is one, he'll eitehr judge people on the way they treat others, or I don't want a bar of him anyway.

I don't know if there is a god or not.I don't really follow a religion but interested in what each religion teaches. I do believe though that religion has been manipulated by man throughout history for their own purpose rather than what God has told them. They use it to control the masses with the use of fear

I believe that we do have a soul which is our true self. We are put on earth whether we are humans or otherwise to gain experience. We are reincarnated to gain further experience to improve our soul. As we gain experience we move up the ladder whatever that is. I.e. spiritual ladder or something else all together

I don't understand that God created everything but nothing created God and he just existed

I believe in aliens and think Jesus was one or he was a time traveller

I don't understand religions that do not believe in reincarnation

Then what is the purpose for those babies who die young or even stillborns

Maybe, besides humans there are other entities and beings and those who die as babies are used for other people experiences such as going through a devastating loss

It's interesting that pretty much every shape & form of humaniods have worshipped some f**king sort or another of higher being(s) with widly varying intereptations of what exactly the f**k the higher "being" is on about. A sort of inferiority complex? or common acceptance thats there's heaps of shit going on behind the scenes that we've got no clue about, so we better be good?

On a related note - I'll happily argue with any of you merkins that we aren't alone in the universe.
