Jarryd Hayne - Make him an Eel for Life

This talk was inevitable. The danger isn't another club in the NRL, maybe just to pump up his price. The danger is Union. I reckon he will stay.

It's only really Japanese or French rugby to worry about. And those places aren't attractive destinations on the most part for league players.
French Rugby have a $10million cap, for a 35-40 player squad
Super Rugby is only a $4.5mill cap - and that's also for 35-40 players.

ARU is also running out of cash, their TV deal is much much smaller, and so doesn't top up the revenues.

NRL is an ever increasing cap, slated at almost $7million for 2015, for 25 players.

While the incentives of playing for Australia and earning extra as a Wallabies player are there, there would be far more certainty in a (much larger) flat league contract, plus $100k SoO, plus a handful of internationals each year.

I really don't know who could offer more?

Hayne needs to be smart and stay with league (hopefully with the eels). While going to Union will provide a big pay check for a few years staying in league will ensure he will have a very long career post playing in league in some form most likely media.

Jarryd has also come out on many an occasion and said money means little to him. It's about keeping him happy and winning a title, which I am sure we can do for him.

If that is true he should sign up for as low as possible. This will help us keep other talent and push for a title.

That's if it's really the title he is interested in, and not the money.

Hopefully it's a game of give and take on this front.

He could sign tomorrow with a club for $1million per season.
But if we manage to ink him at $700k per season, then we've done a fantastic job.

Hopefully they meet somewhere in the middle, and give him a 5 year deal.

If he stays 'ParraLoyal' his whole career, there's the carrot of post-footy work with the club in some capacity, and a half-savvy manager will be able to make him another million bucks a year in 3rd party deals (ie, tee up some himself, and not just the marquee ones organised by the club)

Hayne is the best player in the game. He will definitely be commanding a figure north of a mil.

we need to make the NRL think he is open to offers from the Union to put pressure on them to come to the party and offer him sweeteners to stay.

There was an idea thrown about a few times over the years where each club should be allowed to sign one player for whatever they want, outside the cap.
Would be good if cap rules allowed for this (ie a reduction or freeze in the current cap plus one off cap signing) as it would help a club retain their star plus would allow crap teams more wiggle room to sign a star player.
