The Bulldogs have emerged as a shock bidder for Jarryd Hayne after the NRL superstar conceded his hopes of staying at Parramatta were all but gone.
The
Daily Telegraph reports that Canterbury, beset by salary cap problems but having just lost the Morris twins from their backline, would be interested in Hayne if he came at the right price. That would not extend to the $700,000-$800,000 per season he may demand.
Hayne took a whopping $700,000 per season paycut to play for the Eels last year on a bargain $500,000 salary. Yet even at a cut price, the star is on the brink of being squeezed out of the club.
His hopes rest on Parramatta being able to shift Michael Jennings to Newcastle, while the Knights would need to find a new home for Nathan Ross.
