No. My point is that right now would be the ideal time to sign a guy like Hayne. Brand new stadium opening; a dramatic turn- over of playing personel imminent; a probable turn-over of coaching staff imiminent. In short, the final year of a very traumatic and unsuccessful era and the eve of another. Hence my calling next year a right off. Main point is, what a brilliant time to sign such an enigmatic and crowd drawing player in the twilight of his career to a one year deal. Instead they use it to suddenly make a stand on principle. This club has no brains, no foresight, no imagination.
Fair enough mate. Can see where you are coming from.

I can't....
We can slot Norman to fullback and put BROWN in first grade. If the kids hits the ground running he will be the new kid the fans are talking about just like Cleary at Penrith.

But that neglects the possibility of going even better with Hayne.
I guess its possible, but this is what has happened in recent years when we have or haven't had Hayne.

2018 - 6 wins, 18 losses (Hayne)
2017 - 16 wins, 10 losses (No Hayne)
2016 - 13 wins, 11 losses (No Hayne)
2015 - 9 wins, 13 losses (No Hayne)

2014 - 12 wins, 12 losses (Hayne)
2013 - 5 wins, 19 losses (Hayne)
2012 - 6 wins, 18 losses (Hayne)
2011 - 6 wins, 17 losses, 1 draw (Hayne)

With Hayne

35 wins, 84 losses, 1 draw
Win percentage = 29%

Without Hayne

38 wins, 34 losses
Win percentage = 53%

I can see where he is coming from, but I don't agree with him.

You would have to hope for some improvement but all of this will count for little if we don’t have a quality fullback to provide attacking threats on both sides of the field. As it stands we don’t have that.

Yes gutho isn’t as naturally talented as Hayne, but Gutho was our fullback in 2017 and did a bloody fine job there. And we did make the finals that year!

Additionally it’s his second year back from an ACL which normally takes 2 years to fully recover from.

Gutho is safe, works hard, makes metres and his play making skills are better then he is given credit for.

What people are forgetting is what we will get if we keep 700k thst Hayne wants. People seem to think its just Hayne or nothing. Maybe compare it with this

Ferguson +Lane
Hayne + That qld cup player we signed

I also reckon the club knows it has some excellent juniors coming through and they dont want to lose them.

I don't think BA will play Gutho at fullback. Watch the useless Bevan French start there

So who would you have not signed or not upgraded so you can sign Hayne for $700k. Keep in mind that the dozen or more players that are signed until the end if 2019 all inked their deals whilst Hayne was at the GC after a robust 2016 and big 2017.

Also Hayne has only played more then 21 once since 2011. The next best was 17 games in 2017.

The Bulldogs have emerged as a shock bidder for Jarryd Hayne after the NRL superstar conceded his hopes of staying at Parramatta were all but gone.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Canterbury, beset by salary cap problems but having just lost the Morris twins from their backline, would be interested in Hayne if he came at the right price. That would not extend to the $700,000-$800,000 per season he may demand.

Hayne took a whopping $700,000 per season paycut to play for the Eels last year on a bargain $500,000 salary. Yet even at a cut price, the star is on the brink of being squeezed out of the club.

His hopes rest on Parramatta being able to shift Michael Jennings to Newcastle, while the Knights would need to find a new home for Nathan Ross.

Yeah the dogs have no cap space yet and if they do release Klemmer, they are going to sign a $700k back to replace a prop.

FFS What a load of crap, reckon Hayne is playing the media as no one is willing to offer him $700k.

Also I doubt the dragons have $700k free to sign Hayne, yeah they may be interested but not at that amount.

Think the only reason they have some cap space is because they let MacDonald go and don’t think he was on huge money.

They couldn’t afford to keep Ah Mau.

I think you'll find Hayne was largely responsible for most if not all of those 6 wins in 18.

If Jarryds hearts not in it, he won't be giving any team a $700k performance. He had trouble at the club he loved, he'll go through the motions at another club.

One final thought for the day, a player who most think is not the sharpest tool in the shed, is winning the battle of media and fans against the club. That's how poor the information and position from the club has been, who the heck knows what our media guy does, not much.
I don’t think he’s winning the media battle, all he is doing is alienating many fans with his individual focused rhetoric. I love him but to air your laundry in the media is poor form and wouldn’t happen with other top class players, it’s disrespectful and harmful to his reputation and potential earnings

Tend to agree.
