Jarryd Hayne - Make him an Eel for Life

I disagree. We needed more class this year, which is why we have recruited Paulo and Fergo. The only depth we’ve brought into the squad is Lane (and Davey, but he’s more of a project). Additionally the club wanted to retain another class player in Hayne as it’s first option. Has BA got that wrong too?

Lane will overtake Manu quite sharply .

yeah our offer is only 100-200k less than he wants - he should just accept it

Considering he was happy to take 700k less why is he so bothered by 200k?
No way Dragons are paying him 700k either. I reckon 600k MAX.

Parra need to come out and make public if he signs for 600k to Dragons on their offer so fans know.

Im happy to roll with Bevan.
If he flops then Norman will do a good enough job. Brown can be blooded.
Or Gutherson drops in and perhaps Salmon plays centre.
There are options.

Hayne was prob worth a bit more if we had no options bar say W.Smith
As it stands
Norman,Hoffman,Bevan,Gutherson,Ferguson would all be good enough.

This f*cking club is a joke. Recruitment and retention has been diabolical for years. When was the last time we had two or three origin level players in the side? You can say 'good on them' for not paying more than they think he's worth, but what is the point? So we can buy players like Kane Evans and sign an over rated slob like Juniour Paulo to a four year deal? What the f*ck are they thinking? Hayne was our best back this year. He's a Parramatta legend. For a long time he was Parramatta. And this club hasn't got the f*cking foresight or imagination to fork out a bit extra for this once in a life-time crowd favourite. F*ck me, for a large part of this year I only watched Parramatta games because he was playing. And I don't think I'm the only one. I'm done. After more than fifty years, I can't support this club anymore. I'll still come on this forum from time to time because it's a funny place, but I'm going to follow the Wanderers from now on.
See ya, don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out.

I wouldn't bother coming back to the forum either.

Talk about a joke, throwing away over fifty years over one player. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Nope but we’re a chance of making the 8 with Hayne, which will certainly help with future recruitment and retention moreso than finishing last and bottom 4 in consecutive years.
OK then, answer this.

Why didn't we make the 8 this year? Hayne was in the team, why didn't he magic us into the finals like he's apparently going to do next year?

Why didn't the Titans Make the 8 in 2017?

Do I need to go on? This jesus worship of Hayne has to stop. Yes he is one of the best ever Eels, no doubt about it, he's a freak, but he has a bad effect on the team, call it bad juju or whatever.

If he needs to get his money elsewhere and if he can get his payday, best of luck to him.

Stop pinning your hopes on 1 player, it doesn't work. The entire squad working together as a team is what will get us to the finals, like it did in 2017. (just bee-tee-dubs, was Hayne playing in the team when we came 4th in 2017? I can't remember...)

Maybe this is the final straw for him??? After 50 years maybe he has finally had enough of following this mediocre rabble of a club???

As I said I don’t blame anyone who has finally had enough, and who are you to tell someone who has followed this club for over 50 years to piss off and not come back????

And that goes for this forum as well, I’d much rather read Lingards posts which can be at times negative but he always tries to be objective. Unlike the Pom Pom waving dribble you come up with.

I don't think Bernie will be sacked under any circumstances. I do reckon he will move on though. I think thats probably whats happening with BA but he dosent know it yet. Im still hoping for Justin Holbrook as his replacement. Maybe O'Neill will be promoted to Bernies spot if what I think happens. Ive always thought BA would make a good HoF Manager. Stranger things have happened.

I think BA would make a brilliant assistant coach.

The Bulldogs have emerged as a shock bidder for Jarryd Hayne after the NRL superstar conceded his hopes of staying at Parramatta were all but gone.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Canterbury, beset by salary cap problems but having just lost the Morris twins from their backline, would be interested in Hayne if he came at the right price. That would not extend to the $700,000-$800,000 per season he may demand.

Hayne took a whopping $700,000 per season paycut to play for the Eels last year on a bargain $500,000 salary. Yet even at a cut price, the star is on the brink of being squeezed out of the club.

His hopes rest on Parramatta being able to shift Michael Jennings to Newcastle, while the Knights would need to find a new home for Nathan Ross.

That’s not the point that Ivor made and isn’t the point that I was responding to.

He was suggesting that this year was a write-off so we might as well sign Hayne.

No. My point is that right now would be the ideal time to sign a guy like Hayne. Brand new stadium opening; a dramatic turn- over of playing personel imminent; a probable turn-over of coaching staff imiminent. In short, the final year of a very traumatic and unsuccessful era and the eve of another. Hence my calling next year a right off. Main point is, what a brilliant time to sign such an enigmatic and crowd drawing player in the twilight of his career to a one year deal. Instead they use it to suddenly make a stand on principle. This club has no brains, no foresight, no imagination.

One of our issues this year was go forward at the start of sets and attacking punch through the middle. We have rectified both of those issues with Paulo and Fergo. The other main issue was our halves playing like busted arses. You would have to hope for some improvement but all of this will count for little if we don’t have a quality fullback to provide attacking threats on both sides of the field. As it stands we don’t have that.

I’m more interested in what the overall team does.

If we improve from last to bottom 4 without Hayne as you have suggested than at least we are trending in the right direction.
But that neglects the possibility of going even better with Hayne.

My question is have we offered him 500k as people seem to suggest ?

It would be lame if he signed elsewhere for an extra 100k. Gurr should come out and let fans know. I can understand if Eels have said look we can only offer 250k unles move someone on.
