Jarryd Hayne - Make him an Eel for Life

Nice hyperbole.

But the reality is that he is one of those rare ‘once in a generation’ players who isn’t as good as several players from his (now superseded) generation.

Don’t take my word on this. Ask Shaun Micallef.

Who in our current backlne is better than him? (Based on this year's performances.)

Possibly mate, but we’ll probably never know now.

Don’t get me wrong. He has been a quality player over the years and for the right price/contract length he would have been an asset.

But if he wasn’t willing to join for the price and length of contract that the club wanted to offer then I don’t begrudge the club standing their ground. As long as they are consistent on this going forward. If they aren’t then it will all count for nothing.

Gary, they haven't been consistent in that area for years. They just can't get the balance right. That's why we are so hopeless. Why else would a club be caught breaking salary cap/TPA rules and still have a shit squad? So why suddenly now play hard-ball with Hayne and pretend it's some sort of noble thing? It's just bloody pathetic.

I can't....
We can slot Norman to fullback and put BROWN in first grade. If the kids hits the ground running he will be the new kid the fans are talking about just like Cleary at Penrith.

And if he doesn't? How often do young half backs with no NRL experience hit the ground running like Cleary?

I guess its possible, but this is what has happened in recent years when we have or haven't had Hayne.

2018 - 6 wins, 18 losses (Hayne)
2017 - 16 wins, 10 losses (No Hayne)
2016 - 13 wins, 11 losses (No Hayne)
2015 - 9 wins, 13 losses (No Hayne)

2014 - 12 wins, 12 losses (Hayne)
2013 - 5 wins, 19 losses (Hayne)
2012 - 6 wins, 18 losses (Hayne)
2011 - 6 wins, 17 losses, 1 draw (Hayne)

With Hayne

35 wins, 84 losses, 1 draw
Win percentage = 29%

Without Hayne

38 wins, 34 losses
Win percentage = 53%

Could you insert the coaches we had in those respective years? Do you think Hayne himself was solely responsible for those stats? Come on, Garry, don't be silly.

Yep.

I criticised Terepo for ages, but he was very good this year.

He showed what happens when get a good run without injuries.
He isn't an outright superstar but boy he is bang for buck. Gives 100% and every run is like its his last. If he stays fit he will be one of the better props in the Nrl this season.

Having Norman at fullback along woth Moses is the softest way to blood him. Two experienced genuine playmakers.
I think your thinking of 2014 Hayne. He had some good moments this year but name one mom performance

I think the hardball thing is some fans' spin, not the club's.

Useful raw data but I wouldn't draw any conclusions with out knowing for each win or loss:

Did we have a full roster to pick from, or depleted roster ?
Which players were out, spine or fringe players?
How many injuries were they carrying ?
Were we playing a top 4 team or a bottom feeder like us ?
Were we playing at home or away ?
Was Hayne fit or carrying an injury (like most of last year) ?

Stats (or raw data like this) can be misleading imo.

Not a fan of unanalysed data and dont really take much notice of it, but thanks for putting it all together.
I don't believe I did draw any conclusions.

Facts on their own aren't misleading. People's interpretations are.

It appears that the only logical alternative that you are advocating is that we continue to be hopeless so that Hayne can remain part of our future. I'd like to see us stop being hopeless.

This club is much bigger than Hayne and always will be.

I just presented the stats in response to a silly suggestion that someone else made. I didn't make any claims at all.

Go back and have a look at what I was responding to and stop being so silly, you silly billy!

I think you are probably right. From all reports we wanted Hayne for longer than 1 year and he didn't want to commit beyond that. Makes some of the whinging seem a bit funny.
Maybe so, but if it makes the whinging look funny then it makes the claims that the club had found a set of balls hilarious. This is the eels FFS!
