Yep, so blatantly as well.

I cannot believe they didn't have a clause built in just incase he got home sick or didn't màke it.

I cannot believe tgis club, the board everything, so disgusted that using foul language towards them is complimentary.

It's amateur hour at its very best!

So we just let the best league player in the world just walk away from his contract without any contingency just in case god forbid he got home sick, seconds thoughts about changing sports anything.

Yep we do.
I can't see a problem with what we have done.

He had one year left. 2015. He can't play against us this year. We covered that in the event he returned. He was never going to come back to the Eels and beyond this year we couldn't have done anything about it if he did. Trying to compensate beyond this year would have seen us laughed out of any court in the world.

It seems everyone including I were duped to think we had some legal obligation to retain him should he come back. This makes me very angry now. Don't say "Lifetime Contract" if it's bullshit and let Hayne make out that it will only be with the Eels if it is all just talk.

We basically don't have a leg to stand on if another club want him in 2016 and beyond and he decides to go.

f**king amateur hour. I would have only released him with a clause. f**king dopes!!!!!!!!!!!
Not everyone... a few people here were questining the hype about "Eel for life" at the time of the press conference.

But given that we could never do anything about Hayne's coices for 2016 onwards, you have to ask - was it the club that demanded that "lifetime guarantee" hype at the media conference? Or was it Hayne and his people, eager to avoid a backlash and damage to his "brand" by being seen as a dog who walked out on his club/teammates a year early?

As it is, I don't think he'll play league again. If his NFL contract ends early, he'll head to Japanese Union for a late career financial boost.

We had a legally binding contract. We didn't have to release him. As if you wouldn't have the nous to place a clause in the release conditions of your most valuable commodity.

I just shake my head.
He would have just done a Gorden Tallis and sat out 2015 rather than play for us. Or done a Sonny Bill and just got on th eplane, and there was nothing we could do about it, given Hayne was forfeiting his 2015 payments anyway.

It was obvious - we (the club) had no choice, and all parties tried to make the most out of what was not an ideal situation. Hayne gave us no notice, but there was f**k all we could do about it, or about replacing him for this season.

Then make him play or he sits on the sidelines and devotes his time to twitter, porn or whatever he is into but he ain't playing another sport unless he agrees to a clause for at least a year after he stops chasing rainbows.

Come on Suity. Legally we could have enforced that. Are you f**king serious???
Cross-code stuff - if not in the original contract at the time of signing - just wouldn't stand up in any court.

We can stop him playing for another NRL during his current contract (this year), and that's it. Just like Jamie Lyon ;-).

Who said anything about court? If two parties come to an agreement and sign a legally binding contract you don't need a court to make it valid. IE Hayne can leave if we legally have first right of reply for a set and agreed amount of time. I would have said until the end of 2016, seeing that he basically owes us a year. Why would that be so hard to make happen?

Sorry mate, That's just not true. By agreeing to waive the rest of his obligations under his contract (i.e. 2015 playing services), we are providing consideration for the subsequent agreement (i.e. whatever we agreed regarding his rights if he returned to the NRL). There's absolutely no legal impediment to an agreement that gave us first option on his services for say, 5 years. We can't simply prevent him from playing elsewhere....we'd have to be in a position to sign him ourselves. Not saying we did all of this, but it is simply not true that an agreement spanning beyond 2015 would be unenforceable.

f**k him. He pissed Parra off by announcing his journey whilst his coach was still holidaying in Bali. Works both ways.
Welcome to three months ago....

To hear Jarryd's side of the story, we'll have to fork out cash to read his (eventual) book.

Cross code have been enforceable since Johns re-signed with League when he was close to joining Union. Don't know if it stretches to NFL. I know it does for AFL.

But Barry, mid-contract and about to seek leave... why would Hayne sign himself up to anything binding for the future that wasn't in his original contract? If original contract was a standard issue NRL one which doesn't mention restrictions on playing other sports outside of Australia etc (the loophole Sonny Bill tried to exploit), why would Hayne agree for conditions to be inserted in exchange for his release?

If Hayne simply said "I want out of my 2015 contract, and I don't want any of the applicable payments, and if you don't agree I'll just walk away" - just like Gorden Tallis - what recourse do we have other than not to pay him the payments that he didn't want anyway?
