Life wouldn't suck getting paid $1M euros playing RU in France if he doesn't make the 49ers cut.

The Plane's too good for Union, especially for that club level stuff in France. They don't have the defences to stop The Plane.

More teams-Tougher competition.

More teams, yes.
Tougher competition? In what way?

They play 16 games per season, so it does leave less room for a few poor weeks.
But it is only tougher in certain ways for certain teams. Considering that you only have to finish on top of your division to make the Playoffs, some teams are lucky to be in shit divisions. On the flip side you get teams (like SF) who are in incredibly hard divisions.

I don't think the NFL is any tougher than the NRL in terms of competition. Both Leagues have good teams and poor. Both Leagues have salary caps. Both Leagues have elimination-style Playoff systems.

I can't agree that the NFL playoffs > NRL GF.

But in comparing the comps the NRL has a lot more meaningless/plain bad games and even pointless bad/rounds during Origin. There is a lot less room for a bad game in the NFL and the week-to-week match-to-match consistency is much better.

Only the NRL allows teams to lose and continue in the finals. NFL doesn't. Super Rugby doesn't.

True, and I did think of that.
But the NFL does utilise the 'week off' scenario for the top teams in the first round, which is basically the same thing.

They play 16 games a season; they have a different set of players for attack and defence; they only actually play for like 40 minutes - but it's a tougher comp?

I'm an NFL fan, but that's garbage.

The NRL is the toughest comp in the world - 24 rounds of brutal, attack and defence games.

The 16 games makes every one important. In NRL teams take it easy in 6 games a year IMO
How many minutes would an NRL game go for if you took you the time between the tackle and play the ball. And when ball goes out-concussion etc?

No NFL is.... Bigger faster stronger
You never see an NFL game where teams just do not turn up. I reckon teams in NRL even the good ones have 4 of those a year and the bad team up to 10 where they just do not want to be there.

You would be lucky to get one division where the top side is not deserved of finals every second year. Than you get division where the 3rd ranked team doesn't make it but is deserved.
NRL you have 3-4 teams who can win it before a balls kicked off at start of most seasons - This year its 3 cowboys-rooster-dogs.Hmm maybe Brisbane or penrith at a stretch.

NFL you have 10-12 at the half way point who make a case

325+ million population versus 23+ million. Generally speaking, a national sport like the NFL backed by a 325+ million population creates high quality competition. NRL is not a national sport and with a very small pool available we are not yet capable of supplying sufficient classy players to fill 16 teams providing an equal playing field, season after season.

Bigger? Faster? Stronger? Not a chance.

NFL fans have this sickening habit of implying that their code is filled with Mensa candidates with Adonis-like physiques, Herculean strength and amazinghow athleticism.

And yet a 27-year old bloke who has never played the sport can rock up and impress the right people after playing a decade of - NOT NFL - rugby league.

And btw - as a Raiders fan, I see games where a team doesn't turn up every year.

You mean the time where the defence is running back 10m in order to run forward another 5 metres in order to make the next tackle? And then they do it again and again? You mean that time?
Why would you take that out?

Lol, I could name you at least 4 or 5 from just the Niners last season.

I don't see how just because a good team has a few bad games through the year it means NFL > NRL? im not arguing with the conclusion, just the argument. Its an extremely dumb argument.

This is a competition where on any given day last place can beat first, because its that tight. Not because teams 'slack off' for 6 games of the year and smoke cones for pre game pump up.

How many minutes of football is played between a tackle in the NFL and the start of the next play? I remember reading somewhere that there's only 11 minutes of actual play in an average NFL game.

http://www.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052748704281204575002852055561406 there's the article. It seems there's more time spent on looking at replays of what's going on than actually what's going on during the play.

What really matters for both codes is how many minutes of ads can be jammed in and what the ratings are.
