On the scale of retirements from their chosen sport (in Australia), this has to be up there with Ian Thorpe. That guy could have owned records that no-one would have ever chased down.

Hayne is the same, he could have been the undisputed greatest Eel ever, possibly player ever......

Life goes on though and I'll still support the Eels as much as I always have, he is not the Eels for me, great player, important player but others will come who excite us, maybe not as much or as talented but this does not end the Eels.

Pou is right though, this does open up a lot of salary cap and if a couple of young backs step up and we improve our forwards with true leaders, it may actually favour us.

Judging by our recent signings, the 'gun' fullback signing is way off and won't be happening. The CEO on radio has already stated that Hoppa will play 1 and we will be chasing a centre and not fullback.

I'm putting the individual first. He is a friend of mine and I respect his decision no matter how it was done.

Whether it was handled properly or not is irrelevant now.

There is no use debating how it went down. The club should of been in his ear and the managers at the end of last season working towards an extension.

Why wait till July this year to start talks.

And with this admission, the rest of your comments on this matter become tarnished and biased.

Looks like BA has taken it all pretty hard:

Who cares if he knows him personally, what he is saying is 100% correct. The club knew about this well before the reported 24 hours

Are you claiming that they knew that he was definitely going to leave some time ago? Or that he was seriously considering doing so?

Jowly, I don't know what your siurces are for the comment that they knew, I can state that senior people in the club did NOT know this was going to happen.

As they are involved in the recruitment, retention and coaching, I am very confident that this is the case

Hayne has been upfront with the club since he started seriously considering it 12 months ago.
He gave the club more than 24 hours notice i can tell you that.

I find it hard to believe he didn't make the decision in the last few days as there wasn't a single rumour or story about. Surely something this big there would have been some leaks. Or were the coach, and or ceo or chairman the only ones that knew?

it means more than those claiming the club knew log ago that he was leaving yet don't have anything to back it up

they claim to be in the know yet never posted a thing about it until after he decided to do the Harry

Mate in the US just saw Sports Centre where (apparently) Sea Hawks have confirmed Hayne will be joining them in pre season.

I think he may have just watched the press conference from earlier.

If the club knew he was going why did they let Kelepi go????

Why even as late as last week were we looking to offload Allgood and Mossop. Desperate to get Watmough over here under the cap????

He might have told BA and the club his thoughts a while back but probably only recently made the decision to leave.

But Joely knows everything about Parra just ask him, he told us signings are on the way and we sign guys like Crooks and Reece Robinson.

Joely knows and i am cooking an omelette off my face with all the egg.
