In order:

1. Parramatta Eels

daylight

2. Serbia playing football in any major competition or Novak Djokovic in tennis.

3. Australia (Only in WC football games) Red Star Belgrade, Manchester United, Sydney FC. (In that order)

that's not true at all. athletically, hayne is a freak here because he does what he does against significantly sub standard athletes.

No, he's a freak regardless of the people around him. He dominates because of the substandard athletes he competes against. If he was able to get into one on one contests more often (very difficult in the NRL) he would dominate even more.

for the positions he wants to play he doesn't have the athletic ability to match the best of the best. using reasoning of population sizes to compare isn't valid and doesn't hold water. to use say the 100m as an example (primarily because speed is a big requirement of the positions hayne wants to play), one australian has broken the 10 sec barrier (and he did it once without ever coming close again). by your reasoning then only 10 americans should have gone under 10 sec at this point in time, which isn't even close to accurate.

I agree descendants of west Africans are better suited to sprinting than anyone else, but NFL is a lot closer to rugby league than it is to sprinting. That's why there are whities and Polynesians that do make it in the NFL, and tens of millions of African Americans that miss out.

There is far more to it than just speed.

Always surprises me how many aussie league fans make statements like this and expect to get away with it.

I still expect to get away with it.

Don't worry. I go for Australia in every sport in which they're a chance of losing. That includes rugby union.

Go ahead. Tear me apart too.

Tear you apart? I was responding to Ron's stupid comment about the NFL being bigger and better. Of course it is, which is why Hayne is chasing his dream there.

Hayne is an outlier, meaning his athleticism isn't determined by the country he lives in. If he fails in the NFL (and he almost certainly will) it will only be from lack of experience.

The best one that you have come up with this year is calling Hayne an albatross.

Mate I use it to describe Hayne with my own mates and make out I made it up. :p

Which is why you spent your reply to him trying to reason why it wasn't.

I was showing that just because Hayne is not American doesn't mean he lacks the athleticism for the NFL. He is a freak; a true outlier, just like most (all?) NFL players (and plenty who miss out).

He might make it, he might not. If he was no chance he wouldn't be there.

Come on Pou, stop being an argumentative knob.

If you stop arguing there won't be one will there?

I don't know if you're superstitious but I f**ken am, and I have had a horrible feeling since about 2010 that Hayne is just bad luck. It's a shame because he is the best player I have ever seen.

As great as he was I thought the exact same about Hindmarsh.

Guys I think that your superstitious foreboding, has been directed at the wrong targets. The real wretched luck that our club has been inflicted with comes from the dumbarse administrators that we have been lumbered with for over 30 years.

Now there's some real cursed f**ked up bad luck!

Pou said it in this context or similar, "Now that we have killed our albatross we have more than enough money to spend on forwards." Hayne is an albatross because we know he is too valuable but super expensive (at the expense of acquiring other players) but deep down we know we can't get rid of him.

I've taken an interest in NFL since the announcement that Hayne is going to try his hand at it and I'd have to agree with Pou. Hayne is every bit as big (actually bigger than most RB's) and despite him being bigger he's just as fast and if he drops weight to get down to 90kg then he'll be even lighter on his feet. Hayne truly is a freak and there's some very ordinary athletes over there in the NFL, the reason why they've made it and Hayne probably won't is that they've been playing the game since they were 7. Much like if they tried their hand at League they probably wouldn't make it because they'll be up against guys that have been playing the game since they were 7.

If he fails in NFL its cause he wasn't good enough at the game. NFL is different.Maybe Haynes athletic abilities are suited to league more-Has anyone thought of that?

Nfl is different on many front. Look at a guy like Grownkoski for NE.He isn't the fastest or athletic but he is BIG! And has great hands-Makes him a great go to man for Brady. At 1.98 cm and 120kgs maybe one of the best tight ends.Pure beast of a player.

Some team have a big running back-theres have a small one.Looks at sproles who is 5'6.Some have no real footwork there just big strong and run straight and hard. There would be other league players who would be better suited too this than Hayne! I actualy thik a guy like slater or bowen could of been simmmilar to a sproles style with there footwork and excellent acceleration.

As far as African American goes. We USA population is about 15% African American-But 63% of NFL players are African American. Not sure what the stats work out there but you would think around 12/1 if considered population etc...

In the NRL there are guys who are Physically as good or better. Hayne has footwork and brains to beat players. He isn't that fastest or strongest by any means. The fact he can pass is what catches players in two minds and gives him time and space. He wont get that in the NFL!

Is semi a better athlete than Hayne?

How good would Grownkoski go for the Eels?
