Unless he and his management decide not to, when Hayne's a free agent in 2016?

Free agent my arse. We have given him a gap year whilst he was under contract. He owes us a year. IE he only returns to us in 2016.

Arthur is certainly toeing the party line.

I give you this scenario. We make the 8 this year . Hayne returns from the US and asks for market value in 2016. Lets say its about $900K under the cap. The NRL help us out with the war chest, we also get long service allowances. Do you take him back?

He only owes us a year if we made it a condition of his contract "gap year". Given that he apparently isn't being paid a cent by us this year, I doubt we could have forced him to agree to be contracted to us in 2016? So Hayne is indeed a free agent....

With the scenario, I'll asume we have done what we should have in this situation and reallocated Hayne's 2015 contract money - to ensure the club is as close to cap for 2015 and well set up for 2016. Then unless the NRL foot the entire salary so that Hayne comes absolutely free, then no I wouldn't take him back.

He clearly didn't want to play (for us, or league in general) this season, and effectively walked out on his own timing/terms and left the club at a disadvantage. Hayne will have also had a year off league-training, while seeking to change his physique for another code. Re-signing Hayne would be a risk and I hope the club moves on and looks to the future.

Hayne said it.
Seward said it.
Arthur said it.

Yet it ain't good enough for you. That's right it must be all politics.

Do you believe man landed on the moon?

I know you asked Pou, mate, but I'll answer - I'd welcome him back with open arms.

It would depend on Hayne's influence on the squad. As I said, I believe he's a negative influence, but Arthur's knows the player better than I do, and if he wants Hayne back who am I to second guess him?

You're in fairyland if you think he was only going to cost as much as Hopoate or Sandow or Watmough.

How much do you reckon the most expensive player in the game would be on?

I don't believe that Hopoate, Sandow or Watmough are costing us anywhere near $1 million each a season so I don't know what you're trying to say.

There wouldn't be one player in the NRL currently costing a Club $1 million under the Salary Cap and The Plane wasn't going to be costing us anywhere near that under the 2015 either. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous.

Nah, not unless they changed it in the reforms last year. It certainly used to be a fixed $$ amount per team as long as you had an eligible player.

So you only need one player and you get the entire allowance?

Seriously, what is the point of that.

That is the most ridiculous allowance I have ever heard of.

You said $600k

Answer the question. How much would the top paid be on this year? Next question is how much would be the highest salary next year.

The top player in the NRL I think would cost their Club around $800k under the salary cap in 2015. I'm thinking that's probably Thurston, but perhaps not.

Using the BRW list here http://www.brw.com.au/p/business/brw_top_sports_earners_list_for_6VLF7mok4PMxzOxHAMb9KK

We can deduce that NO NRL player earnt $1.28 million in 2014, including salary, endorsements, rep bonus, etc. This list was for the 2014 calendar year, so The Plane would be included in this list. We will say for arguments sake that the highest paid NRL player is just outside that BRW List and is on $1.25 million. I'd doubt anyone is near that though.

Given that players get $30k for each Origin and Test, that's $150k minimum, in some seasons more if there are more Tests. The Top Marquee players in the NRL would be earning at least $200k just from endorsements and other third party deals per year, at the very minimum. I would suggest that figure is actually more for the top players in the NRL. That's already taking their NRL Club only salary down closer to $900k, of which I'm guessing with marquee and potential long-serving player allowances (which sounds like just stupidity if what Barry says is true), then I'm thinking around $800k for the top NRL player would count under the salary cap.

To say that the Plane was going to be on $1.5 million in 2015, of which $1 million was going to be under the cap, is just fantasy land.

Yeh, it's always been pretty dumb, and largely just served to give tabloid journalists some shit to talk.

I guess the only useful part is that it provides an incentive for clubs to keep some of their talent. Particularly under the 8 year rule. Given Hayne's departure, we would lose the allowance if Mannah wasn't here.

So according to the NRL website http://m.nrl.com/nrl-announces-salary-cap-changes/tabid/10874/newsid/78232/default.aspx)

The long serving player allowance is $250k in 2015 and $300k in 2016. Now that The Plane is gone, if Mannah is the only player we have that would be on this long serving player allowance then we could be paying him bugger all under the actual cap then.

Who else could potentially be a 6 year player (commencing from the Holden Cup) currently at the Club, Morgan maybe?

what an absolute freak....

http://www.news.com.au/sport/americ...ump-world-record/story-fnq2nnu6-1227236448788

MOST of the attention at this past week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis focused on the duelling top quarterback prospects, Florida State’s Jameis Winston and Oregon’s Marcus Mariota.
However, the combine allows unheralded prospects to show off their talent, and this year, one name stands out well above all the others: UConn cornerback Byron Jones.
In the broad jump, Jones jumped 12 feet, 3 inches — which appears to be a world record. Jones’ leap surpassed the combine record of Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins, who jumped 11 feet, 7 inches two years ago.
Jones didn’t stop there, posting an astonishing vertical leap of 44.5 inches. However, he did not run the 40-yard dash, as he is still recovering from shoulder surgery. He will run the 40 at UConn’s pro day on March 31.

A native of New Britain, Conn., Jones was a multi-sport star at St. Paul (Bristol) High School, playing football and basketball. He was an All-State player during his senior season, recording three interceptions while returning punts and kick-offs to boot.
Obviously, Jones is a great athlete, but is he a great football player? UConn coach Bob Diaco thinks so.
“I think he will be one of the best players in the country,” Diaco told NBC in October. “Everyone will see it eventually when they put him in those compression shorts [at the combine]. You will see a tall, long, lean and fast and explosive and athletic player. His numbers, with our developmental process, you are going to see at the end of the day one of the best tangibly gifted cornerback players in the country.”

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah feels Jones could be a “steal.”
“He has excellent height [6-foot-1] and a thick, muscular build for the position,” Jeremiah wrote in a scouting report. “He is at his best in press coverage … He has the speed to carry vertical routes and he stays on the hip on quick-breaking underneath routes. He does have some hip tightness which shows up when he has to open up and redirect … He has excellent ball awareness down the field, as evidenced by a big-time high-point interception against Michigan in 2013 … Overall, if his shoulder injury checks out, Jones could be a real steal in this draft. He should start Day 1 in a press-man scheme.”
Yahoo Sports reported Jones is already rated “fairly high in what appears to be a middling but hardly great group at the cornerback position.”

I reckon it's Thurston and Hayne. After all they're the best.

Fantasy land? You've just calculated to $900k, and then conveniently allocated all of the long serving player allowance to Hayne, despite at least one other player qualifying for said allowance, as well as the whole marquee allowance, which every club gets so is therefore irrelevant to an individual player. All this on a base where you have failed to consider that both club and player have incentive to under report their income.

There is an exclusive interview on channel 7 news tonight with Josh Massoud where he will announce his contract.
