I know a couple of your fellow supporters are absolute merkins but to the rest of you, you have my sympathies. This is equivalent to when Langer quit the Broncos in the late 90's, and THAT f**king hurt.
Mate when he left you were coming off 4 recent premierships and still had a competitive side. We've come of 5 years of shit only to lose our best player in decades.

And we replace him with Reece Plodingson.

It's like replacing Black Caviar in your stable with an Oodnadatta maiden grade horse.

NRL Chief Executive Dave Smith said today he was disappointed the game was losing Jarryd Hayne but said every person was entitled to pursue their dreams.

Mr Smith said it was clear that money was not a factor in Jarryd’s decision to try his hand at NFL.

“This is one of those clear cut cases where I would have been happy to use my marquee player discretion to try to keep Jarryd in the NRL,” he said.

“In fact, I was in contact with Jarryd, his manager and the Eels management last night and this morning to see if there was anything we could do to keep him in the game.

“But Jarryd has a dream and he deserves the chance to pursue that dream.

“He is a gifted athlete who has been a wonderful asset for Rugby League and we wish him well in his next challenge.”

Mr Smith said Jarryd would be welcome back to the NRL at any time.

“In the meantime, I have no doubt new stars will come through the ranks to replace those leaving the game,” he said.

“One of the great things about the NRL is that there is always exciting new talent coming through the ranks to become the superstars of the future.”

I know mate, and it is a terrible scenario. You guys will be lucky if you don't finish bottom 4 next year, which is the brutal honesty, but you have to look to the long term future, because it IS there. One of the proudest supporter bases in the code won't just up and leave because Hayne did. What else can you do?

Kearney was a f**k up, Stuart was a f**k up. You guys just have to deal with that now.

We better have something in writing saying that if he returns, he only goes to us

My worry is we would have released him from his contract and he will return and sign for another team like the Dogs. Our club has a history of making stupid stuff ups like that

Yesterday? Ungrateful little sod! We should be suing him for breach of contract, leaving us with this little notice to enter the player market to replace him for 2015.
#$BW

Sue?

We let him go

We gave him permission

We gave him our blessings

We agreed to release him

So how is the club gonna sue him and the club allowed him to do this?

That will do me

We should get Hoppa to jump ship only to be swayed by a juicy cap concession. ;-)

Bear in mind that it is a conditional release, so if the trials don't work out I imagine that he will be back at Parra in 2015.
I don't think so... as a club we have to replace him urgently. We won't be able to let him back in, if he comes back in a few months with his tail between his legs.
I can't believe people are so relaxed about this - the ramifications for not only our on-field performance but for our sponsors, memberships, etc., are huge for us. This is a major blow to the club and I care more about the club than I do Jarryd's ego...
So do I. The guy has welched on his contract. The league public should be hating on him as much as they did $BW (when he first left the Dogs), but Jarryd's got a better spin doctor, so they wont.

Seems like this decision was made well over a year ago, the only thing I don't like is that he didn't give us a chance to give him the farewell he deserved..
Taking it the other way around, if he'd gotten us in the finals once in the past five seasons, then we could have given him the farewell he deserved there.... I don't think Hayne would care less about "getting a farewell" from Parra fans - he has the Origin climb into the crowd moment on his highlights reel, he doesn't need some saddo Parra fans giving him a clap clap clap.
Indeed. But of course people will still judge Lyon more harshly than they ever think of golden boy Hayne, even though the parallels are really quite similar.

What choice did we really have ? So we (reluctantly) let him go "with our blessing". I am sure that we are really massively pissed at what he has done behind closed doors.

As long as he keeps his word and agrees to never play against the Eels I'm ok with it. Where is Ron Jersmy when you need him? He should know if he will make it.

That's what I'm saying. The club shouldn't have.

If he wants to break contract that badly at this late stage and we don't allow him to, then we can sue him for leaving.

Greedy arrogant sod has left his "beloved" team and club well and truly in the lurch... but it's ok, because he gave us "great memories". And he's an "Eel for life".

His contract only ran until end of 2015. We can control his NRL movements until then (like we did with Lyon), but after that he's a free agent, and this "lifetime agreement" thing would in no way be close to a binding NRL playing contract on his future from 2016 onwards.

Get angry people, don't fall for the PR spin!

No one is really angry cause everyone deep down realises what a little twerp he is and are now looking forward to signing a top quality half and a top quality forward with haynes money which will help us building a better balanced team.

This is a blessing in disguise.

My neice shed tears of joy. She is back on the eels wagon.

It's obviously not a promise to play for Parra from 2016 onwards. But there is no reason why he couldn't have signed a legally enforceable contract that prevents him playing for another NRL club without our permission til the year 2120. There is clear consideration (i.e. we have agreed to release him from his obligations under his existing contract), clear intent to create legal relations, so if we offered him a release conditional on him agreeing to our 'lifetime' terms and he accepted, we have a contract.

Why do you think such an agreement would not be binding?

We may choose to waive our rights under such a deal, but it's not obvious why such an agreement would not give us control over which, if any, NRL clubs he plays for.

ONE thing Jarryd Hayne does not lack is confidence . . . but even he was surprised by how well he performed in a series of tests that measure NFL players’ skills, agility and strength.
RLW has learned Hayne blitzed his testing, ranking in the top five percent in a number of categories.
“He was a bit spun out by how well he did, compared to other players,” a source close to Hayne says.

who will get all his this party agreement s
Joseph Paulo... :D
who will be captain
Joseph Paulo... :D
We finally have stability and he f**ks us over. Good luck to him but don't come back. If your heart was at Parramatta than you wouldn't have screwed them over.
 Best post in the whole thread Colonel. Sums it all up in three quick sentences.

My feelings as well, if he had these thoughts for a while why not tell the club and give us a chance to plan for next year??? Now next season is totally f**ked.

Just when the club was getting back on its feet, this will kill crowds and memberships for next season.

The club has made massive strides the last 12 months and all for nothing.
Yep, thanks for the memories Jarryd... and thanks for f**king over your ex-team mates and your beloved club for the next season (and probably more, if you ever decide you want to come back).
And I don't understand why his ultimate dream isn't winning a premiership with the Eels
Because - as some people have said for a while - Hayne's ultimate motivation in rugby league is (and always was) about himself, never about his team. That's why guys like Thurston and Cam Smith, and Sterlo, Kenny, Cronin, Price etc should all go down in history as better rugby league players, even though Hayne had the most freakish abilities.

Ok, I'm all up to date now... carry on :D

Yes... but why on earth would he sign something like that? When he could just do a Gordon Tallis and sit out NRL for a season (forfeiting his 2015 payment while his contract expires) and still be overseas pursuing his NFL dream?

What would be in an arrangement like that for Jarryd? He couldn't be that stupid... I reckon the "lifetime agreement" is just empty spin.
