I wonder if Hayne wouldn't have been better off playing a season in the CFL first.
Possibly would have got more game time. The white hot intensity of the NFL isn't really the place for learning on the job.

All well and good but at 27 years of age it's hard to make that kind of sacrifice

Imagine after putting up with all of these years of losing and still being a passionate Raider fan and people will just think you are a recent Raider fan because of Hayne. I know, who cares what others think, but it would still be really annoying.

lol, exactly how I felt when it looked like he was going to Detroit

Felt like those people who follow obscure bands. And when the band becomes mainstream, they insist on telling everyone 'I liked them before it was cool!'

Talk is he's going to be cut....

He would be absolutely perfect for us at the Raiders... He could fill that change of pace 3rd down back that Taiwan Jones and Roy Helu are holding.

And of course he can return punts... Which Oldman Woodson and Amari Cooper are sharing...

Derek Carr would be a far better QB for him than Kaep... He's more mature... Far more polished... And they are both really religious...

The only issue of have would be all the idiot bandwagon Hayne fans he attracts.

Sorry, but why would Hayne be perfect for anyone at this point? Even the Raiders.

Honestly what has he shown in NFL games to suggest he's anything but an end of roster guy who can really only contribute as a return specialist?

Reggie Bush has been given the punt return duties

Can't see Hayne being active for a while

The novelty factor has well and truly worn off.

The fact that the 49ers are an absolute abomination of a team doesn't help Haynes cause

It doesn't help that Tomsula is actually under pressure to retain his job. If they had a legitimate coach then perhaps in a lost cause of a season, Hayne would get more opportunities to develop. Instead, Tomsula needs to show some progress to retain his job and will try to do it with the guys that have the most experience.

And just like that the 49ers have cut him.

Will someone pick him up or will he clear waivers and be signed to the practice squad?

Yup...

@AdamSchefter: 49ers waived RB Jarryd Hayne and promoted RB Kendall Gaskins to the active roster from the team’s practice squad.

I would expect him to clear waivers
And from there it's a decision for him about coming back to being s big fish in a little pond or continuing to follow his dream and working hard on a practise squad

I hope he sticks it out there on a PS and comes back next pre season. Given how much he's picked up in such a short period of time, another year of expert coaching and development could make all the difference
