Toyota has announced it will be a platinum sponsor of the Brisbane Broncos from 2007 to 2009.
The three-year sponsorship deal includes the appearance of the iconic Toyota logo on the lower back of the 2007 NRL Broncos jersey.
The Broncos are the most successful NRL team of the past 20 years, winning six premierships since their debut in 1988.
Announcing the sponsorship at a special function in the Broncos boardroom yesterday (December 20), Toyota Australia’s regional manager northern region Chris Beuth said he believed Toyota and the Broncos shared many values.
“We both set very high standards and work hard at ensuring that we cover every aspect of performance to achieve a position of leadership,” he said.
Toyota is on target to claim number one status in the national motor vehicle market for the fourth consecutive year when official industry sales figures for 2006 are released early in the New Year. The company is also set to claim the ‘triple crown’ of motor vehicle sales by also coming top of the passenger and commercial markets.
Toyota has dominated the Queensland motor vehicle market for most of the past decade.
“The great victory by the Broncos in the 2006 NRL Grand Final fits very nicely with Toyota’s recent success both nationally and in Queensland,” said Mr Beuth.
“It many ways 2006 heralded a new era for the Broncos, just as it did for Toyota.
“In addition to another great year for Toyota Corolla, the launch of the award-winning Aurion also marks a new era for Toyota and its presence in the six-cylinder, large car market.”
Australia's influential auto clubs recently named Toyota's new Aurion V6 the best large car in Australia.
The judges of the 2006 Australia's Best Cars awards rated the "quiet, powerful and comfortable" Toyota Aurion AT-X ahead of rivals including the Holden Commodore Omega, Ford Falcon XT and Mitsubishi 380 ES.
They said Aurion rated highest or equal highest in its class for safety, the environment, performance, ergonomics, build and finish quality, smoothness and comfort, ride and braking.
“We believe that the Aurion’s superior fuel efficiency and equipment levels will make a great impact in the south-east Queensland market with both private and fleet buyers. Being part of the Broncos will play a big role in getting that message across,” Mr Beuth said.
Toyota’s sponsorship deal with the Brisbane Broncos complements its continuing association with the North Queensland Cowboys.
The sponsorship has been funded by Toyota dealers and the National Office.
“The opportunity to successfully negotiate the sponsorship deal with the Broncos underlines Toyota’s commitment to support Queensland’s two most established NRL teams, and make a connection with both groups of fans and their respective communities,” Mr Beuth said.
The six major Toyota dealers involved directly in the sponsorship joined Mr Beuth, Broncos’ managing director Bruno Cullen and recently retired Broncos’ legend Shane Webcke at the major sponsorship announcement.
