I have a book somewhere that says that the Broncos -after being admitted to the (then) NSWRL, but while lodging official colours, name, emblem, jersey, ect- originally wanted the colours of red & blue because (as the book says) they reckon those colours mixed together makes maroon. Which is wrong for a start ... red and blue combined makes purple. The also-newly admitted Newcastle team just pipped them for the colours. Ken Arthurson had heard that Brisbane wanted those colours, but as they were yet to make an official submission for them, Arko apparently said "Tell Brisbane they can't have them. Newcastle beat 'em to it." Something like that anyway.

So it appears as though the Broncos always wanted blue, but it took a further 13 or so years longer than they expected!

I must find that book ...

"The official colours of Brisbane are actually blue & gold, but it was noted to the new consortium ( by Sydney advertising guru John Singleton, no less) that QLD crowds had been booing a blue jersey for 80 years. Consequently, the state colours of maroon & white, with a dash of gold were adapted for the clubs jerseys design."

Not a bad shirt if you're riding the favorite in the 3:30 at Randwick ;-)

I don't know, that powder blue jersey was pretty terrible... I would've preferred it if they played in the diamonds over that rubbish.

That's your opinion - but a bloke like 'Knightmare' should probably examine how close the Knights came to signing with SL before he begins his regular taunts and SL-based abuse. It gets a little tiring when people are constantly implying their clubs allegiance to the ARL makes them morally superior to other posters - despite the fact that many of the teams involved in ARL/SL agreements (i.e Knights) were pretty 'flaky' regarding which RL body to join.

It wasn't meant to be a 'let's bash Superleague' argument, I was simply making the point that in 1997, near every SL team changed its' traditional jersey to something garish and cheap looking. As for the Knights- their existence was threatened by News Ltd., who even set up a rival team, but the Knights stuck with the ARL. But that's for another argument- this one is about teams bringing out jerseys more for the sake of change and less for the sake of improvement.

It's good to see that teams are going back to their heritage. A great example is Canberra and how they went back to the lime green jersey in 2003 after those years wearing green, yellow and white. And how the Sharks went back to Cronulla-Sutherland. Now all we need is the Bulldogs to rename themselves Canterbury-Bankstown again and we'll be set.

Exacty my point Steeden. I hope all those things and that the Broncos will revert to something more traditional looking- their first jerseys were by far the best, I've known a few Broncos fans who agree with me on that. I like Newcastle's current jerseys because they're simple and they resemble the first ones the Knights wore against Manly in 1988. I don't have photos of that jersey, but I'm sure someone does.

Depends on how you interpret it I suppose. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powder_blue

It was always reffered to as the powder blue jersey by the media up here.

:|

Wikipedia to prove a point?

It's always been referred to on here and in Sydney as the "ridiculous teal and aqua strip" the Broncos wore a few years back.

I'm beginning to think you're colourblind. It was green, lime and black.

well the wiki thing was the hex triplet code for the colour - not exactly confined to wikipedia. And the lime that they wore at the beginning of this decade was a different colour lime, far more yellow, when compared to what they wore in 2003-05 and are wearing at present.

EDIT:

as against

(1986) and

(2005)

Anyway, a good step for the Broncos would be to get canterbury back on board as jersey manufacturer. After all, they designed the original jersey (yes I know Peerless made them, but there is a picture hanging in the Broncos leagues club from the day their entry into the NSWRL was announced and the CCC logo is in the middle of the jersey), and make pretty good origin jerseys atm.

i think the bronx canary yellow and aqua jerseys were worse than the diamond one.
the panthers away strip is worse than the storm away strip for current bad jerseys, but they did try to be a bit differnt.
and i've only seen that picture of wesser with the new strip on, so it might look better the more you see it.

the raiders away jersey, apart from the logo is a classy strip as well.

since i live in adelaide, there are very few options for retail NRL kit. I have been in touch with Rugby Fever in Melbourne about some Storm gear. Anyone have any experience with these guys?

Second, I want one of the tracksuit tops. They are going for $100, but I am assuming they are last season. Should I wait for the new stuff or will the tracky be the same as previous?

Thanks guys

RF are very good and the official Storm merchandiser. I've brought alot of stuff off them and never had a problem. I haven't been in yet to see the new 2007 gear but will do before the season starts. To find out about the tracksuit tops just give them a call and they'll let you know..

As an owner of the new Panthers away jersey, it is a great jersey and the team will be looking flash on the field in the new strip
