Arcade Fire are great band, but I digress...

I like the visuals in the ad and the song is fine.

Waaaaaah. Let's bring back Tina Turner. Waaaaah.

You'd have to have a head full of eccys to even bear it.

Bugger me - if you're going to have a head full of eccy's at least listen to something awesome

Fortune Telling Fish / You are sleeping

You pick up a working girl hooked.........
Sometimes I get lucky
Once this guy gave me a bill and a half..........

Turn the sound up and ensure you have some decent bass speakers.

Then follow that up with this (from about 1 min 40 seconds)

Electronic music can be structured and intelligent or just a loud booming mess designed to make you move. But don't confuse dance music with the stuff that gets played on commercial radio.

do these ads do anything to promote the game? a waste of money if you ask me. sure, it gets people talking but it's predominantly those of us who already follow the game who give a shit.

this message they constantly attempt to project of connecting with the fans is a crock. it's the same shit every year with just different footage. f**k, near the beginning of this year's edition, they've got some middle-aged overweight pleb who looks like he's taking the ball from a rugby lineout and a bunch of kids pile in for a rugby ruck or maul or whatever the f**k it's called. i thought they'd merged the game for a moment.

nothing gets me pumped like the NFL films action slo-mo's with the gladitorial tunes playing over it. music is what gets the emotion rolling in any produced footage. why do you reckon films have scores accompanying films? if they didn't exist, most of the emotive and tension derived from the action would be ho hum. what they've managed to do with all their fantastic productions and game recaps have advertised the game more than these once a year ads which will rarely be seen by the time SOO comes around. and that's the point. the most successful promotion of rugby league even to those who have a casual interest in it is the gladitorial arena of SOO. the NFL have managed to promote most of its weekly games as gladitorial.

In this regard, the NRL ad sucks. but i guess it isnt aimed it me. at the same time, i doubt the ad will draw in a heap of new supporters. i don't see too many 'stereotyped' pink fans at the v8 supercars i go to either.

Just saw the ad and I thought... :|

Very poor choice of song IMO.

Dont get me wrong, Mauboy is a good singer, and good on her for getting involved in promoting the game. Also the effects are pretty good on this.

But it just doesnt seem to get me excited.

Perhaps instead of a song thats already been written, like Bon Jovi's and Hoodoo Gurus in previous years do you think maybe we should start thinking about creating a new song specifically for the game?

Much like this one:

That might not work today for everyone, but at least something a little similar, like an chant that everyone can sing to.

I dont know maybe we've gotten over that, but I still think Simply the Best is and will always be the best theme song for Rugby League.

Look no further my good man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_RjZstgMr4

They shouldn't be promoting a club that hasn't won a comp since colour tv was invented and and has only won 1 semi in 25 years.:lol:

I think it's great. As has been said to death already, the ad isn't aimed at us anyway. I'm going to watch the footy regardless of what song or ad they attach to it this season and going forward.

Its a great ad. Suits the theme - everyone's into the game. Sure, the song isnt Killed By Death standard, but its attention grabbing, and not just about the codes brainless pin up boys.

Well I got the ad emailed to me here in Nuu Zuulund and had a look. I hardly know who Jessica Mauboy is....But she did a good job and I reckon the ad is sensaish.

Not that we will see jack all of it here as the NRL has yet to finalise any deal with Sky Tv or free to air, one week from the start of the season. Red-dick-u-los.

One week out from the start of the season and we don't know if the game is gunna be shown on TV at all. I call that amatuerish.

What good is a good ad, if there ain't no TV service to advertise. Fair dink, I'm spewing.
