Eagles to field inexperienced side
31May07
ERINA will field its most inexperienced side
of the season in Sunday's must-win Jim Beam
Cup clash against Wentworthville.

The Eagles have been hit hard by injuries
throughout the year and lost another key player
this week.
Utility back Matt Brinckley has suffered a
second broken hand this season and will be out
of action for at least six weeks.
Youngster Marty Bordignon, who started the
year in under-19s, will make his Jim Beam Cup
debut on the wing at Erina Oval.
Meanwhile, in the top of the table clash The
Entrance take on leaders Belrose in Sydney on
Sunday.
The Tigers are only one point behind the
Eagles heading and will be full of confidence
after an impressive win over Windsor last
week.
Meanwhile, Mark Horo has been
reappointed coach of the Jim Beam Cup
representative team.

Sydney Bulls 44 (D Gilmore 2, C Smith 2, N Ford, T Nicholas, J Asplet, T Bushby tries N Wynn 6 goals) beat Seven Hills Demons 20 (T Wynn, S Hayward, J Chaplin, P Ivan tries, L Ackroyd 2 goals)

The Entrance 30 beat Belrose 18 and Mounties ran up a big score against Chester Hill. Assuming that Windsor beat Asquith, The Entrance and Sydney Bulls have 17 points, Cabramatta, Windsor and Belrose 16 and Mounties 14.

A Bull's official told me that the Bulls have only 1 player in the 30 man rep squad. I suspect that Erina will have several.

Yeah the rep team selection seems a bit of a farce, heard last year asquith had as many players as the team coming first

other results were:

Windsor 46 beat Asquith 14, Wenty 20 beat Erina 12, Mounties 36 beat Chester Hill 16.

The table now is:

17 The Entrance (+154), Bulls (+116)
16 Cabramatta (+125), Windsor (+115), Belrose (+59)
14 Mounties
10 Wenty
8 Shellharbour
6 Erina, Chester Hill
4 Asquith
2 Seven Hills

Next week Windsor play Cabramatta and The Entrance play Mounties. Wenty have to beat The Bulls to keep their slim hopes alive.

Looks like they are still selecting the nsw rep side.

The teams I rate who are the most consistent, dangerous and strongest competitors in the comp for JBC this year is The Entrance, Cabramatta and Mounties...

And why is Horo coaching again this year?
Macca of Wenty would have been a good choice.

The situation used to be that the coach of the team that won the comp in the previous season was the coach of the rep team in the following year. That ceased to be the case in 2003-2005 when McCann was given the job and then for some reason Horo in 2006. If the coach is not one of the selectors this year it will be a new precedent because he always has been in the past. Last year Horo's team had 3 players out of 20 even though they finished last.

Yes last years side was not a good rep side but a tragedy. Most JBC top guns that were selected couldnt make it. Hopefully it will be different this year.
Pity players get pulled out for the reps during the seasons JBC comp and I hear NZ sides can not make it this yr....????

Yes most players dont want to spend 2 weeks away from home/work and the coaches of the teams with hopes of winning the comp dont want to lose players. In the old days it was one mid week game against country and then those selected played another game against Qld Residents before State of Origin. Then the Country game was chopped and it was only one mid week game against Brisbane and then that got canned for a tour of NZ AFTER the season ended and then finally these 2 week tournaments in the MIDDLE of the season.

NZ are not coming this year because their team has now been incorporated in the NSW Premier League.

Heard a pretty strong rumour yesterday that mounties will adopt the Parra premier league side next year and their jim beam cup side will relocate to Harboard and play under the harboard diggers club(which mounties also own).

One player who will definitely not be playing for the JBC side in the quad series is Grant Wooden (Erina). Last year he was named forward of the quad series tournament and was elevated into the NSW Residents team that beat Queensland Residents.

This year he was the only JBC player to make himself available for the Central Coast team in the Country Divisional Championships. In fact he was captain-coach of the side and he has now been selected in a very strong NSW Country team.

Steve Ekepati cops a high shot during the Tigers' 30-18 win over Belrose.

THE Entrance winger David Djukich will front the NSW Rugby League judiciary tonight to defend a biting allegation during his side's 30-18 Jim Beam Cup win over Belrose at Lionel Watts Oval, Frenchs Forest, on Sunday.
Djukich was placed on report by the referee after his opposing winger accused him of biting his hand.
The accusation shocked Djukich and he expects to be cleared by the judiciary tonight.
``I thought he must have been trying to milk a penalty or something,'' Djukich said.
``I was surprised I was even placed on report as neither the referee or touch judge could see a bite mark. I don't even remember his hand going near my mouth. And there won't be any video evidence as nothing happened.''
The biting allegation soured an otherwise big day for the Tigers after they toppled the previous competition leaders Belrose to move into joint first place with the Sydney Bulls.
In a dour match the Tigers forwards matched the big Belrose pack and scored five tries with fullback Jamen McLeod touching down for three of them to give his side an 18-6 lead at half-time.
Coach Jamy Forbes said plenty of work in the gym in the off-season for his forwards had paid off this season.
``We may not be as big as some of the other sides but I think we are just as strong and credit must go to our strength and conditioning coach Brice Johnson,'' Forbes said.
``It's been an almost perfect first round for us. We only lost two games and those were by just two points to Chester Hill and Cabramatta.''
The Tigers were boosted by the return of key forwards Steve Ekepati and Cheyne Lennon who both returned from injury to take on Belrose. Kirk Thompson booted five goals after taking over the kicking duties from captain Alex Moore. In other Jim Beam Cup news Erina led for 74 minutes before eventually losing 20-12 to Wentworthville at Erina Oval on Sunday.

Prior to this season the Sydney Bulls had visited Ringrose Park 12 times and come away with 12 wins including 2 major semi finals and 2 preliminary finals. Today they were flogged.

The ground was bone dry and the Bulls camped in the home quarter for the first 20 minutes but never looked a serious threat of scoring. As soon as Wenty got a bit of possession they were penetrative and exposed their opponent's poor defence to lead 16-0. Even after Salem managed to put Ant Mansour over, Wenty struck back with a freakish try right on half time.

Further mistakes allowed the Magpies to post 4 more tries in the second half. The Bulls have had the luxury of playing the bottom teams for the last 5 games and they have been able win whilst playing poorly. The 2007 side is clearly the weakest to represent the club and they can only hope that Jolly gets back on the field soon because they appear to have no attack in his absence.

All of the Magpies played well, including big benchman, Jeremy Latemore, who played for the Junior Kangaroos a few years ago.

This game will be on Fox on wednesday as all the other games were postponed and will be played on the spare wekkend during July.

Wenty 40 (S Micallef 2, M Luland, A Capovilla, B Capovilla, B Bailey, M Fakahua, J Byrne tries, S Mowbray 4 goals) beat Sydney Bulls 6 (A Mansour try, T Bushby goal)

Windsor 32 (Tries: Dalton, Chan 3, Russell, Haumaono; Conv: Russell 3, Laurie) defeated Seven Hills 26 (Tries:Clark, Ackroyd, Wynn, Trad, Cameron; Conv: Ackroyd 3)

It was a much better game from the demons after the horrors of the past weeks. Starting to get a few more players back from injury now.
Demons scored first, teams went into the half time break 3 tries a piece with windsor leading 16-14.
Windsor scored first after the break, demons soon hit back.
Demons went close to scoring again with repeat sets on windsors line, then a nightmare 5 mins saw windsor post back to back tries.
Demons scored again to be trailling by a try with 8 mins on the clock. Demons had two tries dissalowed in the final minutes, both dubious touch judge calls if ya ask me ;)
windsor held on in a nail biter.

Also heard wenty beat mounties, something like 40 odd to 14???
