Round 15 is a big round with the top 6 sides playing each other:

Friday - Sydney Bulls host Windsor at The Crest Stadium at 7.30 pm.
Saturday - Cabramatta vs Belrose at Cabramatta Sports Ground 5 pm.
Sunday - Wenty vs The Entrance at Ringrose Park 3 pm.

other games:

Friday - Mounties vs Asquith at Mounties 7.30pm
Saturday - Seven Hills vs Erina at Fairfax Stadium 2pm
Sunday - Chester Hill vs Shellharbour at Terry Lamb Reserve 3pm

I notice that Nathan Mckay has gone back to the Junior reps with Norths Flegg after Seven Hills dropped him about 4 weeks ago.

Mark Meredith, a Merrylands junior, who played 1st grade for Souths, P/L for Balmain Ryde and in the Queensland Cup, has been playing with Asquith in recent weeks.

Last time I was at Wenty Leagues Club I noticed a photo of Wenty's 4 reps in the 1999 NSW Residents team - Darren Capovilla, Adam Capovilla, Nathan Lakeman and Mark Booth, and the ballboy was Scott Jones, current hooker for Cabramatta JBC.

Tonights Bulls vs Windsor game will be preceded by Canterbury vs Roosters in Flegg at 6pm. The Roosters coach is James Pickering, who with Quentin Pongia formed a formidable front row in the Bull's 2002 Metro Cup premiership team. Pickering played the first half of the following year in the JBC but was eventually forced to retire by the points system. He was assistant coach of the Bulls for the last two seasons. Pongia left the Bulls for a big contract with Wigan in Super League.

Sydney Bulls 20 (D Barakat 2, N Ford, T Mansour tries N Wynn, T Nicolas goals) beat Windsor 18 (S Laurie, C Barlow, D Randall tries R Russell 3 goals)

The Bulls were very slow out of the blocks as Rhino Russell went through close to the ruck in the first set of the game and sent up Laurie to complete an 80 metre movement. Windsor rarely put in a bad display and they continued at a fast pace stringing passes together and placing the Bulls under pressure.

The Bulls stood up tonight, neutralising the quality attack with dogged defence and after a few incisive runs from DeBartolo, Ford delivered the money ball for Barakat to score inches from the corner post after 23 minutes. Wynn took his time over a magnificient coversion but limped out of the game shortly thereafter.

The Bulls kept up the pressure and found themselves in the same corner when Ford threw a desperation pass which bounced off defender Dalton back into Ford's hands for another touchdown. Halftime Bulls 10-6.

Windsor hit back 8 minutes after the resumption when the Wolves capitalised on a dropped ball and quickly spread the ball across the line before loped 50 metres down the sideline, avoiding defenders to grab a 12-10 lead.

The Bulls kept up the pressure which resulted in Mansour scrambling over from dummy half and then Barakat collecting a Nicolas grubber for a 20-12 lead half way through the second half. The were no easy yards in the balance of the game but yet again the Wolves came back with another converted try 8 minutes from time.

The Bulls deflected further raids and were deep in Windsor territory when hooter sounded.

Jolly, DeBartolo, Winterstein, Asplet, Nohra and Salem were strong for the Bulls while Chan, Haumono, Ryan Russell, Dalton and Nuimata were best for Windsor.

Cabramatta 29 (H Katoa, A Tuara, M Alifaologo,G Britcher, A Burns tries, A Tippett 2 goala and a field goal) beat Belrose 22 (S Carew, J Curtis, T Barrow, D Pangai tries R Plummer 3 goals)

This was another quality game with the lead changing several times. Katoa scored in the corner 30 seconds before half time to give Cabra a 14-12 lead at the break. Cabra appeared to have wrapped it up when Don Thompson, returning the ball dropped it for no reason allowing Pangai to stroll under the posts to make it 28-22 with 6 to go.

From the restart Belrose attempted to spread the ball immediately but coughed it up allowing Tippett to guide a drop kick off the upright for a result in contrast to the 2 conversion attempts that hit the post and bounced away.

There were plenty of huge hits from the Cabra forwards while Carew and Curtis returned the compliment for the roses, who were missing their 2 rep squad members, Greg Hilton and James Mortimer. Cabra incurred a few injuries with Betham troubled by a hamstring and Takchi and Branighan having arm problems.

Last night Asquith notched up their 3rd win of the season as Mounties made it 3 losses in a row. With the very poor lighting at Mounties a cynic might suggest that Mounties couldnt see the guys in the black jerseys. Apparently Mark Meredith had a big game.

I heard that Nathan Ward got what he deserved - an 11 game suspension.

CORRECTION: A Tuara did not score, 2nd try was scored by Francis Betham. Somehow it was announced to Albert Tuara. Hope this was recitified.
Francis Betham went out injured after a good 30x min play. Alan Burns was awarded man of the match. And a BIGGIE, Willie Brown also re-joins Cabramatta.

I thought it was Betham but the other guy has a very similar hairstyle so I assumed the announcer knew what he was doing.

Erina defeated Demons 31-18.
Was a close game with the lead changing constantly, Erina where up 24-18 with about 5 to go, demons had a couple of oppotunities to level but for some good erina cover defence. With about a min to go a Demons spilled ball went straight into the arms of Tavinor who raced 20m untouched to score under the posts. then a field goal from tavinor on the siren.

Wenty 22 (A Fluke, T Petric, A Frost, S Mowbray tries, Mowbray 3 goals) drew with The Entrance 22 (A Moore 2, C Kinsella, J Davis tries, K Thompson 2, Moore goals)

Wenty, playing catch up after a sluggish start while Alex Moore scored twice in the opening 20 minutes, recovered to trail 12-10 at the break. The Tigers maintained the upper hand until Mowbray scored 4 minutes from the end after very determined work by Fluke and Adam Capovilla.

The Entrance never give up and in their final set were held up over the line. From the restart with 1 minute on the clock, Moore chipped cross field and Luland spilled the ball to allow Davis to equal the score in a fairly adjacent position. While Wenty contemplated failure, Kirk Thompson failed to convert.

Wenty and Mounties are still theoretical possibilities but I suspect that the semi finalists will all finish on more than 30 points.

The leading teams are as follows:

21 Sydney Bulls (14 games)
20 The Entrance, Cabramatta (13)
20 Windsor, Belrose (14)
17 Wenty (15)
14 Mounties (14)

The Affiliated States have named 3 players with JBC experience in the squad - Ryan Dickson played a few games for Newtown in 2005, John Ahnfeldt played a few games for Windsor and Atoa Lelilio was an occasional top grade player with the Bulls and Cabramatta before moving to Darwin this season.

Webb Cup incentive for Eagles
05Jul07
ERINA will be chasing its third win in seven days when they host big guns Cabramatta in the Jim Beam Cup on Sunday.

The Eagles will be full of confidence heading into the Erina Oval showdown after beating Seven Hills in Sydney on Sunday and backing up to outpoint Asquith 40-24 in a deferred match at Woy Woy Oval on Tuesday night.
There will be more than the competition points on the line on Sunday with the teams battling for the Clae Webb Cup.
Webb collapsed and later died after a routine tackle in a match against the Sydneysiders in August last year.
The Eagles completed 16 of their 18 sets in the first half on Tuesday night to lead 18-6 at the break. Four quick tries after half-time finished off the visitors.
Second-placed The Entrance take on table-toppers Sydney Bulls in a Jim Beam Cup blockbuster at Bateau Bay Oval on Sunday.
