Why do teams drop players down from their NSW cup teams into their JB cup team if they have a bye in the NSW cup? Not very fair and not much point other than stacking the JB cup team I wouldn't have thought?

Also I know that the squads are worked on a points for players system. Do ex ESL players count the same as ex NRL players?

The Wests website indicates that only one player went to Perth to play with Campbelltown and they sent another 5 players to Narellan in County RL Group 6.

A lot of the State Cup sides have feeder arrangements so that fringe players can get a game against reasonable opposition. When there are byes they can put a few regulars into the feeder team.

Shellharbour have the best arrangement. Last year they were getting fringe State Cup players but this year they are getting fringe NRL players. They already have has many points this year as they got all season last year.

from WA Reds: www.waredsrugbyleague.com.au

Date: 25/05/2008Reds Down, But Turn The Corner

REDS DOWN, BUT TURN THE CORNER
While going down to Shellharbour Marlins on the east coast, the WA Reds turned out one of their better showings in recent weeks with a close game until the 67 minute mark when five tough penalties against the team led to three converted tries to the Marlins and resulted in a 36 to 16 loss.

The Reds went into half time 16 all and were still just two points adrift at 16 – 18 well into the second half when they were on the wrong side of a few decisions which made the difference in the end.
The talk before the game was how the Reds would shape up against the Wendell Sailor influence and who would take him on. In the end, Sailor took on a roving role and the efforts by the Reds meant there was no real impact made by the former Australian representative player. Although his presence did lift the home side it was Dragons team mate Ben Ellis who made the difference with two tries against his name.
General Manager Bill Nosworthy commented that while the boys went down, he had comfort in the way the game was played and the effort put in.
“We needed to turn around some of the fundamental parts of our game, and we did that tonight. Our backs controlled the game better and while we made some handling errors, it certainly was a big improvement from where we have been. It was disappointing to end up with the loss we had and the team did not deserve to lose that way.”
With penalties at 10 to 4 against and the majority coming at the end, it was not necessarily the way the team played that affected the loss. In fact, with the decisions going the right way, it could have very easily been the final score going to the Reds.
Tries for the Reds came from Jason Godecke, Ben Lindegaard and Heath Egglestone with Craig Phillis putting in 2 goals from 3 attempts.
The team is away again next week against the Belrose Eagles before playing the next four out of five weeks at home.

Mounties V Windsor
Windsor defeated Mounties 37 - 30 after mounties led 26 - 12 at half time. Good first half but a lot of dropped ball in 2nd half, mounties snatched defeat from the jaws of victory today.

only two jets players ben green and don thompson played in the rhinos wins

Both very good. I here Ben GREEN is carving it up for them at the moment too.

The bloke is in everything for them and still can't get a run back in the Premier league side. Top young player this bloke. ( Was the reason Jets got a last minute draw versus manly in P/League the other week. Set up the try and kicked the equaliser from the sideline under pressure ). Great young talent GREENY.;-)

Still 13 rounds but it is just my assessment that the top 5 are a class above the rest. 6th placed Erina are 3 behind 5th placed Cabra but Cabra beat them 40-6. The ladder was a bit funny in the early rounds because some of the top sides were playing each other and some of the weak sides were playing each other. Now the table is starting to sort itself out, although Dellharbour are yet to play 3 of the other 4.
