Gotta say after the dust has settled on this incident, I would feel very sorry for monas if he were sacked, and disgusted with the NRL if they de-registered him.

We let convicted woman bashers play in the league. Hell we have every media commentator and journo in the country falling over themselves to take shots at the NRL for potentially forcing one of them out of the game by daring to make them pay their own legal bills...

And yet a bloke who commits one very distasteful, but not in any way harmful, act is going to get banished?

Doesn't seem right to me

there are basically two groups of people posting in this thread:

1.) diehard rl fans, which is admirable. Unfortunately, they are also suffering from a severe case of stupidity, which makes them completely incapable of seeing the bigger picture. They are classic examples of why RL never learns from it's mistakes. Commonly found in positions of power at RL clubs

2.) people that actually see the wider implications for this and would like to see the issue of players misbehaving addresses in a way that does not include one of the following moronic justifications:

- others players from other codes do it too
- it used to be worse when they didn't report on it
- it's not his go
- it doesn't affect ratings (allegedly) so who cares
- it doesn't hurt anyone so who cares
- players will always be stupid so suck it up

This situation has pretty much blown over already, what has it been only 3 days. There is no victim, no court case. It is done.

A big "lol" to the dickhead wowsers who thought the world was going to end (as per usual)

Moffo, you do realise that stupid acts commited by males aged 18-30 is not a problem belonging solely to the NRL don't you?

Apparently he's going to leave the club by falling on his sword......better than letting a dog land on it I guess.

Ahh I forgot that justification....so we should do nothing to seriously address it, right?

They are addressing it. There are strict punishments, player welfare officers, education programs (on women, drugs, alcohol, social media etc etc), stringent drug testing I could go on and on. On top of that they run the risk of absolutely being crucified by the media and seeing their careers go down the drain.

What else do you want?

which group are you Moffo ?

By your own definition either posters are diehard Rugby League fans and thus severely stupid or not diehard Rugby League fans and not severely stupid.

The best excuse is "me and my mates have done worse". Apparently the young men of Sydney town regularly swerve past sex acts with dogs and do sicker sh1t on Saturday nights for funsies. There are some classy dudes in this thread.

You honestly think a bloke beating up on his missus is a better class of human than a bloke who let a dog lick his nuts?

It's not much of a choice obviously, but woman bashers are the lowest form of scum.

Monaghan should be punished for what he did (perhaps a season sat out suspended, but not sacked) while any of the woman bashing scum in our game should be banned for life

The only feasible way to minimise the amount of stupid sh*t that occurs off the field is the NRL only to register rugby league players after the following options:

IQ Test - A score of 125 or higher
High School Certificate - At least a B- or higher grade average

Pick whichever one you want, you'll still get the few idiots but not as many. The biggest problem is if we set the bar that high for these players our league would suffer and would no longer be entertaining, everyone should just go support their local cup sides.

It's rather noble for Monaghan to sacrifice his career for love.

LOL

Really? I'd think pedophiles would have been considered worse. Maybe pedophiles who then kill children then rape then would have been the lowest form of scum. But you have your agenda so that's nice.

Feminists :sarcasm:

Its hard to comprehend that there'd be 130 league fans total that think he should be banned for life, let alone on this forum alone. Shouldve made the poll public.

Then this... WTF are you going on about now?

Missed the point again huh? I'm going to call you Captain Short End....

I know Captain Short End! It's hilarious when you have no clue.

Do they have shoes there? ffs, do you think I'm made of money?
Well, funnily enough, they have the daily papers there. All for free. Never been to a library huh?

lol. dopey... you think that you know me. That's cute. And please don't hold back on the entertainment. We have a topic to discuss but your kiddie tantrums are handy for comic relief.
I've been discussing the topic for the entirety of the thread's length. Glad to see you could join us.

True if you're considering the percentages to be similar

In 1995 the population of Australia was 18 million and the immigration intake was around 100,000 - or just under

In 2010 the population is at 20 million but the immigration level is over 200,000 per annum

So immigration has increased by 100% whilst the population has only increased by a significantly smaller percentage. Approximately 10%

But if you add accumalative figures, ie immigration over a 10 year period, baring in mind that many immigrants wont take up the local culture for some time, you can see that immigrants that have arrived in the past 15 years total around 1.5 million or more.

This has quite a net effect and shows increases in participation levels as being significant even if they are LOWER than population increases as a whole.

You have to take a longer term view of participation figures to get a true picture.
Fifteen years is pretty long term. Any effects will have begun to take effect in the past 5 years, especially with the immigration boom in the 70's, 80's and early 90's. Let's wait until next year shall we when the new census is completed (how exciting!).

I think you are exactly right. The blinders are on for some.
