My full quote:

Yes, technically Thurston was part of a winning Grand Final side playing on the bench as I and others have suggested - did he lead his team like the great halfbacks before him did? No he didn't. Thurston was a young pup on the rise standing behind the "great" Brent Sherwin. Thurston made five or so appearances in 2004 and started only two or three times. Hardly weight to anyone's argument suggesting he was influential as any of the great halves were in their sides.

Move along Derek.
:lol::lol:.
You can waffle on all day ,but it doesnt change the fact that JT has a premiership ring when you claim he doesn't..
If you post outright lies ,you will get pulled up for them .
You're off to a good start here.
Classed as a liar from the start.

move along tard.

Thurston is very good. Johns was great. Cam Smith is another level again - so good that one contract at a time isn't enough to contain him.

A better comparison would've been thurston v sterling
I think Thurston v Mortimer personally. Thurston was better on his feet in his early days, and better accelleration that Sterlo ever had. Sterlo is far better in tight, and read the game better than anyone.

As for this emerging Joey v Smith crap - Smith has always needed Cronk, SLater and a solid pack. Joey could whip up magic regardless of who was p[laying with him. Joey made the position of 5/8 obsolete. The only thing Cam Smith has made obsolete is the salary cap.

This debate is ridiculous had Joey been fit he'd of won 5 Dally M's at least. JT is an amazing player but isn't on Joey's level, nobody is on his level tbh, he's the best footballer that ever lived. Thurston has been very consistent at Origin and still has been unable to reach Johns' level of domination at that level( see 00(even when he came off the bench he was still NSW's most dominant player), and the 1st 2 games of 03 and 05). Nobody in the modern era is equal to Joey no matter how much butthurt Queenslander's argue against it.

And that was before the last line too.

I hate the Broncos as much as the next man, but they would have wiped the floor with Newcastle and anyone else in the ARL in 1997.

All of it.

Johns was a great, but the reason people knock him is because of posts like that.

I disagree Johns missed 10 games in 2001 and just missed out on the Dally M, he missed 5 or 6 games in 05 after a broken jaw and lost the Dally M by 1 point surely he'd of won both awards had he not been injured? The impact he had in those Origin games were immense and imo better than anything Thurston has done at Origin level.

Johns was awesome but some of you are forgetting how good the team he had. He was playing alongside the best 9 in the comp in buderus, he also had a prettu awssome pack that included ben kennedy and te backline was basically reps with tahu, gidley and mcdougal.

Who did thurston have, Payne?? The cowboys backline is also pretty average. There current forward pack is awesome but he hasn't had them healthy for prolonged periods of time.

I don't care who has won more grandfinals. I'd still take johns, but I only consider him slightly ahead of thurston. In a few years time that may change.

It's a silly point to make - if he didn't have those injuries, what's to say it wouldn't result in a negative impact?

Woulda, shoulda, coulda etc.

JT playing a prominent role in seven consecutive series victories trumps the handful of excellent performances Johns had at that level.

Johns isn't even the best NSW Origin half.

Couldn't have been much of a a negative impact he'd of needed to score a couple of points in any of the multiple games he missed to be judged the best player that season(which he surely would've).

Thurston aided by the best hooker of all time, one of the best fullbacks of all time, two brilliant halves patner(Lockyer and Cronk) and brilliant outside backs( GI, Hodges and Folou) and playing behind a solid forward pack.

It's no coincidence that NSW haven't won a series since Johns retired.
