I am guilty as charged for having overlooked the value of Thurston's five appearances in 2004. It says it all that he gave away his premiership ring. Tell the story any way you want to pal. 1. Before we even entertain this question, Thurston needs to lead his team to a NRL Premiership or two.

2. All of the greats, especially in the modern era have steered their teams to a premiership. Sterling, Mortimer, Stuart, Langer, Johns etc have won the big one. Thurston has that lacking from his resume to even be in the conversation as a rival to Johns.

Yes, Thurston has all the individual accolades, awards, rep records in some all conquering teams etc. though there is one glaring hole and he needs to get that premiership ring before his career is done.
