Exactly DP . The people saying pay dugan a million are most likey in a financial mess in their lives. You have to manage what you have and not put too many eggs in one basket. Yes....we would get a good replacement for 600k plus. Time to put the argument to bed and let it pan out.
I think Kurt Mann would love 600ks to pay 1.
But I'm sure he would settle for less unless he's had enough of Mary's selections and wants out!

You believe he got something but you have no proof what he got so again you are assuming.

You have done nothing but bag Millward for sometime now which has become tiresome.

I have never taken much stock in player managers as most are scumbags.

The fact is the club has offered 2 very fair offers ...they aint stupid. But both players rate themselves more $$. The market will take care of it. The Main thing is we dont become like the swans and overpay a player like they are over paying franklin and live to regret it. Accept our decent offers or move on. We cannot overpay and have no money for depth. It happened to the rabbits when they overpaid sam burgess ...and lost Ben Teo and others. They have been useless ever since. Not us thankyou.

Gandhi , there are now at least half a dozen million dollar a year AFL players and that is likely to increase to about 20 in 2 years time.Buddy will still be one of the most gifted players and his salary is capped at 1 million, so not really such a bad deal considering he is performing. The real problem is Tippet took up a stupid contract renewal in his favour and at 850k and he is useless. The more i look at a similar scenario with our signing Hunt , over the next couple of years it will look like a wise investment, particularly as he plays a position there is not a lot of quality depth in the NRL

Agree , I have never said that Dugan is not a very good player and versatile that he can play fullback , centre & winger .In my opinion the Fullback game has passed him by. That's not to say that he doesn't do a good job for us there but we now have rocking forwards laying the platform for our play makers & future play makers to shine and we need something different from our number 1.. Dugan by any stretch of the imagination is not a play maker and therefore not worth ( in my opinion ) even 750k. Even as a running back has to be prepared to pass the ball to a teammate in a better position to score. Dugan's ( like Aitkin ) first instinct is to run first then think about passing it and still run again.

The domino effect in paying him 'what he wants " will have a bearing on the teams make up and again , in my opinion only , it is not worth it. Our fall back position should we be not confident there is someone in the club to take over next year is we can offer a outside player a contract. We should get a pretty good fullback for 600k plus.

Who?

Unless you are in the negotiation you have no idea what the offers or terms of any proposed contract are. I don't believe you know what the actual amounts paid to players at other clubs are and I don't believe you know what our salary cap position is.

Its easy to make grand statements.

I don't understand your logic. If the Dragons sign Packer, there will not be 1m left in the cap. If they also sign Lafai, then there will not even be 750k left in the cap.

Millward caved in to sign Widdop and as the manager is the same as Dugan's and Packer's, he feels like he has the wood on Millward. My point is that if Packer is signed now, no longer is 1m available and the manager knows this. So there it ends, sign for 750k or move Dugan on to another Club.
Sorry but Dugan is more important to us than Packer.

ANOTHER injury to Dugan and ANOTHER extended amount of time on the sidelines and that is why we cannot afford to offer him ridiculous amounts of "marquee" money to re sign him.

It sort of says mcgregor isnt going to be offered anything by the club as well. Him and duges on a lonely planet together?

Dugan will be snapped up by another club, possibly Canterbury.

McGregor's future is less clear but I suspect his tenure will be extended by virtue of there not being any contenders for the coaching gig.

I think Saints should reduce Dugan's offer to 700K, take it or leave it. It does not appear that there are any clubs who want Dugan to play fullback for them(Canterbury look like the only one that might?). I also doubt that many, if any clubs are going to pay him more than 700K to play centre for them either, unless they can get away with a big 3rd party deal included. We should not be paying anything more for Dugan than other clubs are prepared to pay him, if anything, if he is as loyal as he says he is, then he should sign for us for less.
