They can't share that information as they will be found out to be either rorting the cap or get paid waaaaay too much for the way they play.
Yep. In a sport without a cap the fans don't seem to give a shit how much a player earns. Yeah sure he's overpaid/underpaid. It's just a financial detail, unrelated to competitiveness. Under a salary cap, every dollar a player gets paid is one less dollar that could go to anyone else in the squad.

Theoretically, it's the same without a cap, instead detracting from a club's budget. But if budgets are different for every club, merkins accept they will be spending different amounts on players anyway. Whether someone is on overs or unders is far less relevant than the fact it's not an even playing field in the first place. The NRL's problem is that it's not an even playing field but the existence of the cap fools merkins into thinking it is, and if their club is underperforming there must be someone to blame.

Bring in a player draft too. That’s a great off season spectacle in itself. They’ve even made movies about it with Baseball and NFL.
Concern with the draft is why should you be punished by being a hot young talent and being forced to go to clubs like the Dragons, Tigers and Bulldogs.

Jesus if true his player option was worth north of $400k what the hell was MON thinking? Who structures a deal like that, with both player and club option? How much would we have paid if it was a club option???

I think most fans could have accepted $200 - $250k range but this is ridiculous.

Reports at the time seemed to suggest he suffered it "overnight" before a game day... so here's hoping it's a new injury/qualifies for paid (non-cap) medical retirement.

I think cap cheating is tacitly accepted by the NRL. Public revelation of salaries invites scrutiny that would quickly smash the house of cards.
I prefer an IQ system. Each club gets to sign their top 30 with an aggregate IQ total of say 100. Pay them what you want to after that, it won't matter.
