Junior Amone

Junior Amone appears to be a reasonable player, nothing out of the bag as yet.

He may be a good lock going forward. He looks strong and has a good step and can slip a pass. Appears to lack a bit of dash.

Agree perhaps we may see the best of him if Griffin partners him and Sullivan during the SOO period if Hunt gets selected again for the cane toads

People talk about the culture of the club being bad, and then in this thread want Amone straight back in the team because he's now "only" facing 5 years in prison.

The biggest culture problem is with a certain group of fans

He’s just OK IMO. Over hyped.
Well if he is overhyped what is Bud?

With bugger all time in 1st grade and even less time in the halves in 1st grade we have a multiple people saying drop Amone, shift Hunt all on the back of reserve garde form from a reserve grade side that did poorly.

Criminal charges etc all aside Amone deserves to get a run in 1st grade on the back of his more than adequate initial year in the top grade.

Or perhaps all the posters that said that with the juniors you have to pick and stick were just full of shit and they were just being hypocritical when they bagged out Hook.

Your right. I actually didn't rate him last season. I was pointing out that the NRL may have to reinstated him because he no longer satisfies their stand down policy. In my view he shouldn't be able to walk straight back into the 17. His actions showed there is something seriously wrong with his mental state. In saying that the present coach, the present poor culture and distinct lack of discipline needs to be addressed before we even think about being a competitive top 8 team. The next actions of the coach and board in regards to Amone will be very telling in regards to what they believe is acceptable behaviour both on and off the field.

In my view Amone was disappointing last season in saying that even the top shelf 5/8 would have struggled behind our pack.

The die is already well and truly cast.

For once Maximus I agree.
Amone falls within the dickhead policy category.
To allegedly chase someone with a hammer in his hand he is a dickhead.
Also Old Timer you maybe right in regards to Amone over Sullivan, but due to injury and poor selection Sullivan has had quality time in first grade. What I do like about sullivan is his competitiveness zip and passing.

I agree he showed enough in the charity shield that he could spark something behind a very uninterested team. The engine room was given a football lesson that day. The defensive line looked like a drawing by Mr Squiggles and the on field talk was deafening, there wasn't any.

Come on, Amone just forgot to drop the hammerer on the ground when he commenced his chase!

I'd be surprised if there were many who want Amone back in the team. The question is, how can the NRL stand him down when he no longer falls under the automatic stand down threshold? It's a dangerous precedent if they continue to stand him down.

But he does still fall under the threshold. The rule states "if a player is charged with a serious criminal offence, he will be automatically subject to a no-fault stand down condition", and a serious criminal offence is one that attracts a maximum punishment of at least 11 years imprisonment. As far as I can see, no charges have been dropped, he's just being tried in a court that has a maximum available penalty of 2 years for a single offence and 5 for multiple.

Either way, there are numerous people in this thread talking about selecting him and Sullivan and dropping Hunt, or whether to select him or Sullivan to partner Hunt. Whether he is facing 14 years or 5, you can't talk about how much you care about club culture and then talk about whether to select a guy facing a 5 year prison term.

Yes, but he doesn't meet the threshold as his charge now can only carry a maximum of 5 years. Even if the NRL allow him to play, which I think they have to, my personal opinion is the club should take some initiative and stand him down until the matter is resolved in court.

No, the charge still carries a maximum of 14 years. The court only has the ability to give a 5 year sentence, but that is a limitation of the actual court, not the charge. If something changes and the prosecutor tries it in district court instead, he's back to the 14 years.

It's a technicality. Personally I don't think that he should ever throw on the red V again. However our club has a horrible recent history of allowing such behaviour
