a lot of clubs seem to 'withdraw' offers just before the player signs elsewhere. it's been reported that he is close to a decision and the Dragons offer was significantly lower than the Sharks and Eels. a nice way for the club to save face.

at this point the only thing Parra could catch is a cold. Everything else is just that little out of reach unfortunately.

Looks like Poore is definitely leaving Saints.

http://forums.leagueunlimited.com/showthread.php?t=323823

“Our offer would place Justin in the top few players in terms of salary at our Club but Justin and his Manager have informed the Club that they wish to pursue other alternatives with a view to gaining a better financial offer”.

can you imagine if one of our good players (or their manager) said that - this forum would have them tarred, feathered and hanging from ray price's statue

Bid to underwrite Shark recruits' wages

http://www.smh.com.au/news/lhqnews/...-recruits-wages/2009/05/18/1242498698725.html

...

Asked about Poore's demand to have his contract guaranteed, Zappia said: "They wanted that assurance, and the leagues club will underwrite the contract. The leagues club is not broke and the leagues club is profitable whereas the football club is struggling. But we are not going to fold tomorrow. What we are trying to do is be proactive rather than wait until it is too late."
Zappia said other players had not sought similar guarantees to Poore, who is also being courted by Parramatta but is believed to favour joining the Sharks as he lives in Wollongong.

I'm certainly not holding my breath ... talks with the sharks must have progressed a long way

Happens all the time with players/managers and clubs.

Difference being the club doesn't generally report it.

Putting it out there to the fans that Frank the Tank is actively chasing the dollars may put some extra pressure on him to stay. The players swamped him after he scored on Friday night .. both clear signals from both club and squad that they are putting pressure on Poore to stay at the Dragons.

He is a club junior and lives in Wollongong; he 'likes' the Dragons more than any other club. The Dragons are getting closer and closer to a Premiership and have one of the two best coaches in the competition, whilst the Sharks and Eels are both as far away from winning a competition as they have ever been, and playing for either of them would harm his chances of rep footy.

There's no two ways about it: If Justin leaves for Parra or Cronulla, he is leaving for the money and nothing else.

God knows you blokes need a front rower who is actually useful, though ;-)

I couldn't agree with you more! .... how much money difference are we talking? fmd - the dragons must all be on cheap salaries if he's leaving for more money (enough to make it worth leaving) yet he's been offered right up there with the top salaries at the club

The figures I've heard are around $250k/season from Saints, $330-350k/season Eels and Sharks.

Edit: The club can't bend over, because they are chasing Karmichael Hunt hard. Also, they have a view to Weyman's next contract. His current one is a 2 year deal ending 2010 @ $135k/season. Given his current form, he could be commanding comfortably over $300k/season in 2011 and beyond, other circumstances notwithstanding. With the extra $150k+ per season on one front rower, it's not viable for the club to give the extra money to Poore. We need a half and a hooker.

I still don't think he's proven he's worth throwing big top dollars at.

Bennett is a smart man and he's offered him what he's worth.

The Sharks are paying massive overs if reports are true at $400k. Ridiculous.

I personally think we can get better value out of the likes of..

- Logan & Learoyd Lahrs from Canberra.
- Scott from the Cowboys.
- Shackleton from the Roosters.

2 out of those 4 would help.

The sharks have a fetish for paying overs for one sh*thouse frontrower after another, they have been doing it for 20 years. Lets face it, the sharks are a fotm panic buying club. They think a front rower is going to help them, how about getting some backs that can catch, they would have won another 3 or 4 games already if they did.
