Kade Snowden Told He Can Talk To Other Clubs

Reported in todays Newcastle Herald that Kade has been told he is free to look around for another club, even though he has another year to run on his contract. The Storm and Cowboys are reported to be interested in him. I can't say I'm surprised really. He was touted as the next big thing (me included) but has never really taken that next step. However he is still only 20 years old so he has a lot of time on his side, and I still think he could become one of the top front rowers in a couple of years time. To me he seems to be carrying too much weight, and needs to trim down a bit. He's been very immobile in his appearances this year.

:x :x :x

this is one that will bite us in the bum. I cant believe this - a 20yo prop who hasn't looked bad this year, and we are letting him go. surely worth at least next year...!

All I can say is WOW, it seems that hes out of favour.

Not sure whether this is a good thing, the blokes had massive raps and hes only 20, I think they should stick it out with him for a couple more years.

Well it's the whole back page story in todays paper, and they are quoting Steve Crowe. The piece also says that Perry has definately signed a three year deal with Manly, that's the first time I've seen any conformation of Perrys deal in any paper. It also says That the club has signed Sargent, Royal, White, and Tolar for next year, along with the recruits we've read about from the Dragons and Storm.

I just can't see Royal, White, Tolar as a better prospect than Snowden.

The clubs done some good things this year but this type of decision is Hagan / Sargent like in its stupidity.

The kids obviously a talent, they just need to work out how to unlock it, sending him to the scrapheap after 20 FG games is just plain stupid

I'll tell you what sh*ts me more, is that blokes like Royal / Young et al, are being kept above Snowden.

He'll go to the Storm and be playing for NSW within 3 yrs.

I don't like the sound of this. Snowden has been solid this year without being explosive, but his junior rep honours should be a huge motivation to keep him at the club. Plus, he is only 20, and props don't reach their peak until 25 to 28.

What can i say.
Watching juniors come through can be a frustrating business.
Snowden was the best junior forward the Knights have ever had. At 17 or 18 he could play for 80 minutes, run with the backs, offload like a firstgrde veteran, dominate the middle of the field for every team from the Knights to NSW to Australia in his age group - he was the whole package.
In the last two years he has been getting bigger and slower by the minute and has gone from a better version of Cory Paterson to our new Parso.
If he goes to Melbourne i am convinced he will drop 10kg and be playing for Australia in a short time, but he seems to be in a comfort zone in Newcastle and not improving or even staying at the same level he was.

Stuff like ths happens at all clubs. At Saints Ashton Sims was in the same boat as Snowden.
Massive raps, young to debut, then get in their comfort zones. Might be in Kades best interests to go elsewhere for the sake of his footy.

That makes me feel a bit better Ronnie.

But I still cant beleive this tbh.

I think id definitely rather him to White and Royal.

It seems really strange, he hasnt been doing too bad and he has everything on his side to say he'll improve with time.

So really odd saying he can go.

Only thing I can think of is maybe Smith hasnt been happy with how he's been off the field?

If he goes goodluck, hopefully he'll come back one day as one of the best in the business.

I assumed Knights props next year would be Cross, Sarge, Wicks, Snowden & Royal. I guess with the re-signing of Natusch, Kade is seen as unnecessary.

Don't worry, i doubt you will see much more of Matt White anyway.

Surely this is the type of instance where a Butts or Chief comes into play as a mentor.

Plus if they think that weight is an issue, put him on a program to strip some off?

If hes in a comfort zone then its the clubs problem as much as the players, its time to re evaluate the process and player and if hes as good as everyone thinks he is then find a solution.

hard time of the year for him to pick up another contract. maybe Smith's way to put a rocket up him and get him to start to fulfill his potential

Is it too hard to coach people into form these days, at his age and experience he has had this seems a bit crazy. He has done some silly things but also some good things this year, I am starting to get the feeling Bellamy and Wayne Bennet are the only coaches who back there ability to turn average players into good one's whilst others have a cheque book to do there talking. Kade and Josh are 2 players I never thought would be gone next year. It's one thing to imitate what some clubs are doing with there recruitment by pulling in guys who fit a certain criteria physically but they still need the coaching nothing is gonna change that.

Jeez we'll take him off your hands for you!

The guy is better than Shillington already.

Snowden has been just as good this year as other forwards we have re-signed, surely he is worth another chance given the huge potential he has shown in the junior ranks...

This will be one of the first decisions I have disagreed with under Smith's reign if it comes true.

Sorry if I came across the wrong way - I didn't doubt you but was shocked by the news (still am). Hoping that this is just to give him a kick up the tail, as letting him go and keeping the likes of White and Royal would be lunacy.

To put it in perspective even more, I'd be nearly as shattered if we let Abes go :p

Question: is the ever famous Big Timmy a prop or a 2nd rower?
