If the article is accurate (I don't believe it is) and he will play for whoever picks him first, then he will play for NZ, because HE WONT BE PICKED FOR ORIGIN 3. He will then play for NZ in October's test.

So you sheep shaggers can start untwisting your panties now instead of waiting til October.

But, what I cannot fathom is that if Australian depth is at lows where they need to resort to this, why can't they just repeat what they did with Adrian Lam - where foreign countries lend their players for origin. It is not a novel situation we're facing. I mean clearly NZ players need the paycheck.

NSW need a half - here take Foran, Benji or Johnson...

NSW need a prop, here's James Tamou...

Qld need a prop - here take Big Sam K or James Graham...

Qld need a backrower - here take Jeremy Smith, Frank Pritchard, Sam B or Gareth Ellis

But keep them eligible for NZ and England respectively.

I mean Qld have no issue with selecting NSW'men and foreigner and NSW have no issue in selecting Queenslanders and foreigners...

Paper talk, QLD wont make any unforced changes.

Its not like we are coming off 60 point loss.

Oh hell no. If Sam wants the coin, it is no joke. He has a career to think of. If Queensland offer him that coin, notwithstanding the letter, they're the joke. The player has less responsibility to the game as a stake holder than the Queensland body!

How the f**k you can post this tripe...

Then follow it with this, that actually makes sense is bemusing to me.

They were loyal to Dave Taylor after game I, he is not effective and a liability, he deserves to be dropped.

The player has to think about the extra dollars origin will give him. He is a professional league player, he plays for money, thus it impacts on his decision. Credibility decisions for the game should be made by the selecting bodies, not the players themselves, who need money.

Oh yeah, it makes sense alright.

Or they could return to the residency interstate rule where the NSW clubs play the others. Not sure who would get Canberra.

The last part of your original post I quoted I actually think makes sense. I think if just because a certain player is born overseas, but plays some of their junior footy here, why shouldn't they be allowed to choose which state they wanna play for? But, that doesn't mean they automatically have to play for Australia.

Working backwards here, the first part of your post says that the QLD body of Rugby League has more responsibility than the player in the selection process. I disagree completely because the QLD body and the player alike, are both playing under the same rules. It is not the job of one or the other in their respective positions within the Rugby League to act on what the rules should be, or to take a moral stand. We all know where the problem lies, and it's in the eligibility criteria, and it's something that needs to be fixed well before Origin next year.

There is still yet to be a player who is signed by an nrl club, moved to Australia and switches to Australia/origin. Kasiano opens up a whole new can of worms if he defects!

Agreed.

But the player is in less position to be moral due to his personal fiscal interest. He gets 10-12 years to make as much money as possible to set himself up for life.

It is not the job of one or the other in their respective positions within the Rugby League to act on what the rules should be, or to take a moral stand.
The governing bodies are more in a much stronger position to take a moral stand and have far more sway in changing the rules than the players as individuals who personally need the coin.

We all know where the problem lies, and it's in the eligibility criteria, and it's something that needs to be fixed well before Origin next year.

Possibly agree with you here depending what you propose. It is ridiculous that Tamou and Kasiano cannot play for NZ after choosing an origin paycheck.

It's not their Junior Clubs that are displayed. It's who they played Senior RL for.

If Kasiano were to play Origin his club displayed would be Aspley Devils, not Otahuhu Leopards. He played with them until high school, and then didn't play league again until he moved to Brisbane.

Antilag: I wasn't comparing the players moral obligation to that of the QRL or whoever, I was merely stating that both parties play under the same set of rules set out for them by the governing ARL body. Obviously both parties do what suits them under said rules. If a player wants to make his extra $60k by playing in the Origin series like Tamou, and he's good enough to, then he should go for it - more power to him.

Kasiano and Tamou, while controvertial, should NOT have to play for Australia just to get a NSW/QLD jersey. It's lunacy.

I don't know what the answer is eligibility wise, maybe wherever a player has played their senior rep footy, ala Greg Inglis for Norths Devils or something similar.

Canard,

Will the selectors be loyal to Dave Taylor, or is the loyalty angle used only when it suits ?

I think they will stick with the same squad yes.

I reckon he didn't deserve to be there in the first place and deserved to be dropped, but same could be said about Petero, Boyd etc. etc.

He's had loyalty for 2 games now and not repaid it by playing well and under performing.
You are just running with the whole loyalty thing.

Is everyone forgetting that Taylor played last year and 2010?

they are, because he hasnt done anything yet. he's had 2 opportunities this year and done little with them. he was elevated to the starting lineup for game 2 and was terrible. loyalty only works if theres some sort of effort shown.

back to the kasiano/kiwi debate. the bigger problem is that born and bred maroons and blues are losing their spots to kiwi's with dubious links to australia. I have no doubts if kasiano was selected he'd rip in, but what about other qlders like corey parker & jacob lilyman?
