Katich cut from contract list

His contract hasn't been terminated he just hasn't been offered a new one after the current one expires. And in the end it amounts to the same thing as challenging the selection. He wasn't offered a new contract because the selectors have decided they won't be selecting him in future. I don't think it's a fair thing to dispute at all. By it's nature professional sport is entirely different to working in an office or shop. No one goes into it unaware of this and the role selectors play. That is the downside that is compensated by the fame, big contracts and commercial opportunities outside the game as well as just getting to do what most of us would give our left ones for a crack at.

If someone in the media asked him if he considered legal action the right answer would have been, "look I'm disappointed, but there's no way I'd ever consider that". To even bring up the possibility himself was a huge mistake.
I think the reasons he got for not being offered a new contract were particularly problematic and make for an easy case, but the fact that this sports etc does change things. I doubt he personally would have considered legal actions, I think his manager would have told him that they were a possibility and he had to say that in that situation that is the only method of appeal a player has.

It's laughable really. The one strong point of the Aussie team in recent times have been Kat and Watto setting a good platform (and the middle order ruining it). To be honest, of all the moronic things the selection panel has done over the years, this has to be close to the worst.

Ha, it's not even close to this mob's worst decisions.

And to be fai, that is the saddest thing about it. That as bad as this decisions is, they have made much worse and probably will continue to do so *sigh*

231 runs in his last Test 10 Test innings

Katich was a very good Test opener, provided he was facing NZ or West Indian bowlers.

Did nothing in his last two Test series, against the two best sides in the world, India and England

He has himself to blame. Next time he has a sook it should be in front of a mirror
tests against India - playing with a broken thumb (told it was bruised, morons)
tests against england - playing with a torn achiles. Somewhat mitigating circumstances wouldnt you say. Follwed by which he got himself fully fit again.

Comfortably our best performed batsmen in the series against Pakistan before that, and in fact didnt have a bad series until those four tests.

And the point remains that it was 4 poor tests that get him dumped, when Ponting has been woeful for sometime, Hussey averaged less than 35 over a 30 test period etc etc. Katich got dumped unreasonably whilst others have been allowed to be shithouse for some time.

And lets not go into bowlers like Krejza, Doherty, Johnson, Hilfenhaus etc etc.

Oh and the other point against Sudhir's allegation of whinging - it wasnt just a personal whinge the whole way through, it was frustration at the way cricket is being run in general by the selectors and management at present. His own example of the only fulltime selector never discussing his future or anything with him, his comments about the 17man squad for the first Ashes test etc. Management is adversely effecting the running of the national team.

Absolutely.

And as for Sudhir, he is blind to the corruption within the ICC and BCCI (same thing really). His defence is to call racism/ jealousy against the Indian team.

Sorry Sudhir, nobody is criticising the Indian side. Great team. The powers that be, on the other hand ...

I'm glad Katich didn't hold back in the press conference, it was a f**king disgraceful move. He would have made a good Australia captain too if he was given the chance.

I maintain that certain people are deeply jealous of Team India but I have never accused anyone of racism.

Please provide an example that proves otherwise

Sudihr, we're coming off 12 years of supreme dominance in cricket, we have no need to be jealous of team India. We've achieved far more than you and had the abilty to play home and away. That doesnt change reservations over the concerning levels of influence that the BCCI has over the direction Cricket is taking at an International level (although our own admin is f**king pathetic as has been highlighted in this instance by the Kat).

 @ jealousy.

If that makes you feel better about yourself then congrats.

Personally I enjoy watching India play. A wonderful side with great talent - certainly no jealousy from this end. That said, if that's your defence against criticism of the BCCI then I feel sorry for you.

I can't stand India and the clowns that India produce. They are destroying cricket with the IPL and the way they have infected Test match cricket with 2 match series. They don't mind cheating either. Good on them for being number 1 not that I think it is really deserved particularly in the test arena.

We're Jealous??? Best team in the world for 15 yrs and 3 WC's in a row. And we're jealous??? Our run was always going to come to an end and well done to India they have some great players and are a very very good team. As for Kat he has just said what most of us on hear have been saying for years, good on him he know's he won't be picked again so why not give the public a players perspective on how poorly CA are running Australian cricket ATM. If they get the right people coaching and selecting the sides we could get back up there in a couple of years if they stick with the clueless Numpties we have presently Australia will struggle for a while yeat.

Katich and Stuart Clark combo IMO, the only two players of recent times who have spoken their minds (well Warney has as well, but he has enough other shit going on).

Pretty poor effort there champ, i expected a little more. I was happy India won the cup because of Tendulkar. And Sehwag is one of the favourite players to watch of all time. Most of us on here are cricket fans first and are just not happy with the way the game is being run in this country.

Geez, selectors just can't win

They don't drop either of the three batsman aged in their mid 30s and they are accused of hindering Australia's future

They drop Hussey and the non NSW fans will have same reaction, pointing out that he scored 570 runs in the Ashes and is your "form batsman"

They drop Ponting and people will froth at the mouth over an indignified end to your "best batsman since Bradman".

No, if they want to sack people because of age, they should sack the worst performing ones whose careers have been declining with age, not the single best performing one.

People's reactions aren't what matters, what matters is the consistency of selection justifications. When these are inconsistent, it means the selectors are either lying (to us and/or themselves), unjustified in their decisions or both.

One good series in two years is no indication Hussey will have another good innings, because he is just getting older...

Just because someone is the "best batsman since Bradman" doesn't mean that they will spend their whole life being an incredible batsman (even Bradman got old and past it) and that their skills will not deteriorate time and subsequently their batting average and value to the team
