Peard had not been able to break back into first grade.
Then next year , !980 , he retired as a player and became coach of first grade and proceded to demonstrate what a FW he was by making Ray Price ( returning from Kangaroo tour and Man Of The Series ) come up thru the grades after completing his suspension from the previous season.
In his own words `Prove to me that he was good enough for first grade`.
It didnt take too long for everyone to realise that this `coach` was a turkey.

True nobody will remember or care - this time next year we'll either be reminiscing about how close we came to the premiership and looking forward to 2013, or we'll have the knives out for kearney, the ceo (tba) and the board over a disastrous third year in a row of missing the finals. And i'll be joining in the clusterf**k of hatred.

The reason i've put it out there that i expect to make the finals next year is so people know i'm not a mindless kearney supporter. This way if i did make excuses for him next year, some smartarse ;-) would dig one of the old threads up and rip me for it. You know this, i know this, the merkins that give people shit for supporting kearney also know this. It's about publicly giving myself nowhere to hide.


F**ken oath. We've got a good coach who's assembled a good team. We have no reason not to be confident.
People said kearney's a shit coach because of how we went this year, and next year others will be saying he's a great coach. And both groups will be wrong.

I have asked the question - why do you think he doesn't have a job - and you came out with "No one knows" because you know which is the more likely explanation. Because he doesn't want to? It's possible, but give me a f**king break. It is extremely unlikely.

None of us know anything for certain. The fact is very few of the things we dicuss here will ever be answered definitively, so we're dealing with likelihoods, probabilities and possibilities.

The question of whether Kearney is a shit coach or not is a fair one (and I agree the question of whether or not he is a good coach has been answered already, though that's not to say he won't become a good coach in the near future). You believe it is most likely that Kearney is a shit coach and you have a valid point (imo). I believe Kearney is not a shit coach, which I obviously also believe is a valid opinion.

But even the 'fact' of whether these opinions are valid or not is itself just an opinion. And therefore not automatically valid.

Kearney has proved he's not a good coach but it is still too early to say he is a shit one. If this year has proven anything it is that Hagan and Anderson weren't so bad after all. We obviously have a group of players who undermine any coach that tries to effect change in the club, and the only solution is, to paraphrase Hasler, "to stick solid with Kearney through these dark times".

I'm glad the board didn't decide to go with bringing Taylor in. If Kearney is going to fail he needs to do it his way. Then there will be no debate.
