Ahhh hindsight.

No hindsight! There are plenty of us who knew Kearney had no lower grade coaching experience and the NZ success was tainted!

Why didn't the board know????????

This IS NOT an "I told you so" it is about us, (as Pou Pou would put it) "useless merkins" knowing something as simple as his coaching record......

I am still confused why they went hard for him.......

Shane Flanagan had at least a 10 year resume coaching lower grades and being an assistant coach at 3 different clubs including ours. Mcguire won a premiership in the UK as head coach and the broncos coach had come through the grades working there and knew the players credientials and knew what he was working with as soon as he took the job. A rookie coach can work if he has the right credientials and in the right circumstances. That's not the case with kearney though.

I missed that response to my post but well summed up Kornstar. Simply saying 'Ahh in hindsight' doesn't cover it. The fact is those clubs looked more into the results, credentials and experience of the assistants coaches they were signing/promoting whereas our club just head-hunted a guy solely for the sake he was the assistant coach of the Melbourne Storm.

That wasn't the sole reason he was head-hunted. He was tasked with re-building the side - he's this far managed to snag Hopoate, Lussick (unproven, true - but he's young, aggressive and huge), and Blair; he's developed Sio, and Morgan is improving; he's manage to improve Keating's game; and he's focused on keeping talented youngsters like Kelepi Tanginoa, Frazer Masinamua and Pauli Pauli.

His coaching record is abysmal and he's not liked - but he wasn't just hired because he was associated with the Storm.

He may have been hired to do that... but what you are describing he's achieved anyone could have done. He's signed a player that is still 18 months away from joining the club... and Lussick. Great. Blair, Sio, etc were going to improve naturally. No offence mate but in the space of 18 months these are his biggest achievements and we should be commending him for them, you are clutching at straws.

that may be true but if we didn't have the retention program both SK and Nolan have implimented would they be at Parra or somewhere else?

his coaching is alot to be desired but his handling of juniors is great i'll give him credit for that

None taken.

But he's also got us Sandow (which at the time was a good move), and tapped a few players on the shoulder.

Kearney always had a difficult assignment ahead of him - as any coach who has cleaned out a club can attest to. It is very unfortunate that his on-field record sucks so bad.

I agree. His coaching leaves something to be desired (even though we have bigger issues than the boss tbh), but he's handling the re-building side well given the circumstances.

Also, I recall the Roosters were upset that we nabbed Blair from them...

That's fair enough, but I don't know how much credit has to do with Kearney for that. I'd say Nolan has more to do with that. Players like Ryan and Blair weren't our juniors they were recruited by Nolan. Sio is coming along nicely but apart from him and Allgood the juniors they have retained (Lasalo, Morgan, O'Hanlon etc) haven't really developed. It's all well and good to retain juniors but if you can't develop them into first graders, or you've retained average juniors at the expense of good ones, it kind of defeats the purpose.
