It would be a nice signing, Can Benji play hooker, I am sure our attack could be spiced up with him playong there?

If we sign Keary and Benji stays, don't discount a Benji/Keary halves combination.

Unless Widdop significantly picks up his game, don't think he has a mortgage on the 5/8 role (and probably why we're keen to sign Benji for at least another year).

A move to fullback could be an option as well, which many think is his best position.

I have the opinion Benji still has something to offer, if egos are put aside for the greater good of the team, having Widdop @ fullback would make a happy team, Dugan will be happy in the Centers, Benji happy playing @ 6 , Keary happy not having an actor telling him how to play....it's like happy wife happy life, Agree?

I personally don't think we'll ever see Widdop play fullback for any length of time, and I don't really think we should!

If Keary is really coming, then why keep Benji? Just have a feeling that the club is hedging its bets with Benji as Widdop has been so poor this year.

A Keary/Benji halves pairing might end up to be a good one, and not more than 6 months ago, we were sold on a ball player to play fullback. Widdop could be that guy if Mann couldn't cut it.

Our attack has been so diabolical this year, we can't really rule out any option to fix it.

I don't think we'll end up with Keary either, hence talk of Benji's extension.

For a long time I've liked the idea of trying Widdop at fullback. Why not try Mann at half and Benji to 6 or Mann at 6 while Dugan is injured?

Unfortunately,I have a feeling that this is nothing more than a smokescreen . The bullthugs were after Luke Brooks and missed out - have they now set their sights on Keary ?

No idea why it hasn't been tried?

If we were willing to move Dugan for Mann, can't see why we wouldn't do it for an established international.

Might have something to do with the captaincy. Mary anointed him our leader, so this may go hand in hand with being our on-field general as well, which is easier to do from the halves.

I was hoping it would raise his game to a new level given the extra responsibility, but he's gone backwards if anything.

I've seen no side of Mary (or Price) to want to make big changes to team structures.. and I can understand that.. its usually the wrong thing to do, and its something that really needs to happen in the off-season, were clinging on as it is... though if for some reason we do slip out of finals contention (lets hope not!) then yes its somethign to consider.

Having said that, our spine desperately needs an injection of something, Duges unfortunately coming back to #1 after Manns short stint.. has undone all of the pre-season work to update our offence.. and Flo is the best defensive option and then some, but hes not the fullback who breaks the line either.. but again I get the decision.. and Flo will get better with more time at the back, his combinations when running those sweeping plays.

Smh, maybe we haven't tried it because Widdop would be a f**king horrible fullback? You're all delusional.

Widdop used to fill in for Billy Slater at Melbourne during SOO & always did a f**kn good job.

I asked a mate who has quick access to team lists & he told me Widdop shared the role with Matt Duffie & Ben Hampton when Slater was away for Origin. Widdop played 6 games at fullback for the Storm in 4 years.

Because if we keep Dugan at FB, our attack will go nowhere.

All the best attacking teams use their fullback as a 2nd 5/8 and most of their set plays are based on a fullback sweeping from the back. It's such a basic yet effective play. We're the only team in the comp that has to come up with something different because of our fullback.

Mary realised this at the beginning of the year by recruiting Mann. Daley recognised this by selecting Moylan at FB instead of Dugan. With Moylan, Tedesco and Boyd, Dugan will never play FB for a rep team again.

Everyone now realises that teams just don't win consistently with Dugan playing FB. Everyone that is, except the majority of this forum.

I'm in the Widdop is worth a trial at fullback camp
Purely based on his positioning in defence when Dugan has been out of the line and his style of play

It's doesn't have to be a black and white situation. It might be a great move to move:
Dugan to wing
Widdop to fullback
Mann to five-eighth
for a few attacking plays during a game. In defence and maybe for the first two tackles in a set, Dugan should be at fullback. Then when the stars line up, Widdop drops back, Mann moves to 6 and Dugan moves to the wing to execute an attacking raid.

Definitely worth a trial but unfortunately I suspect he never got back all his pace after the hip injury. Might make him unsuitable for the role. I believe he played fullback for both Melbourne and England before playing 5/8 for either.

My memory might be a bit shot here but I also remember him coming off the bench for England as a utility and filling in the hooking role.
