Poor for us?

Our attack looks much more crisp when he's on the field

I've no issue with letting him go if it's what best, but I think saying he's been poor is way harsh.

God I feel for Benji, watching him on NRL360 you can tell he is a shattered bloke - not wanted by a club I feel he has grown close to.

Such a great advocate and role model our club.

If it is true about Keary signing... I wish Benji all the best in his future, hopefully as an ambassador for our club.

Do you need a hug? A safe spot to cry.

Agree, loved watching him play even though it was sometimes rocks or diamonds, he's agreat role model for younger players at the club to aspire to.

Sorry dudes, no place for sentiment. He's been poor for us for three years in a position that's make or break.

Poor? 3rd in Daly M's with the 3rd highest try assists in the NRL last year. Only 2 players had more try assists one being an imortal and from memory the other being Mitchel Pearce. ...Hard marker Dr FB

Ditto. Imagine finishing your NRL career under coaches like Price and McGregor. Tough situation for anyone. My deepest sympathies to Benji

I actually like Benji and think he's the only player we have has any kind of genuine X factor. Left of centre thinking - if they can agree to terms on money, would he have value as a super - sub?
He should be able to get a gig for say 150-200k, most likely as a backup half, but yeah maybe off the bench.. but if I was him a stint overseas might be better, rake in the money.. but perhaps family considerations and potentially a media career are preventing him from taking that option.

Agreed, he is our only x-factor which is tragic as a squad.. Duges/Aitken/Lafai/Flo/Rein/KFFL are all good footy players, but none of them are really that scary to defend against, the duges may get a lot of wraps but his actual tries and try assists shows that hes hard to tackle but hes not bringing x-factor or uncertainty to the team.

Im happy to go a different way for 2017 if we can build the roster, but the criticism is way off, and I think its taken its toll on him this year, injury, lack of contract and social media beatdowns.

Without question Benji has been a great player in his time.

Like most great players, his body can no longer cope with the pace that the NRL is played at.

He would make a great super sub for Saints at the right contract price.

Given the way Mary uses his subs, he could easily play 10-20 minutes per game.

However once we consider using a back from the bench we need to also consider Quinlan and Dufty. They provide the speed to split a defence wide open trailing the forwards and sniffing for an off load.

If he still had his speed, he'd be the perfect 5/8 now. With reduced interchange, running 5/8's like Morgan and Milford are all the rage. The Nikorima brothers too eventually.

But you really need playmaking abilities from your 1, 7 and 9 to make this work. Things we don't have, so we really never saw his best.

When Mann is fully over his knee injury and gets his head right, he should be given a go at 7.

He has some speed and could organise the attack.

Feel sorry for Benji, you have to be kidding.

He had an offer of $300k plus a car and he rolled the dice and came up snake eyes.

If he had got a better offer he was gone with the wind.

So and now he has an injury and no offers so fell on his own petard.

We are not a club that can afford to take a punt on a half. There's not enough star power in the side to cover if things don't work out

Yes I agree with your comment, but unless I am mistaken we have Benji perpetually injured and a guy called McCrone who is a below average half playing 7 for the 6th game this year.

He is not exactly the most creative half we have ever seen.

Mann, Hutch or my mother in law would be more effective halves.

Oh wait a minute I forgot, we adopt the safety first approach to make sure we can finish between 8th and 15th.

Little wonder we are now the laughing stock of the league.

Take a chance Mary. You can pick McCrone all year and achieve nothing or you could give a couple of young guys a go and unearth a first grade half.

Lets see people tore strips off Hutchison when he played first grade saying he was shit and should never be seen in the top side again.

Mann played and had a shocker at fullback now people want him at 7 and if he has another shocker he will cop the same treatment hutchison has.

Who else would you pick other than McCrone who at the very least has played 7.

I would rather play Benji for 40-60 minutes and take a chance on him pulling his hammy and have McCrone on the Bench available to replace Benji or Rein.

I would use Havili in that instance as a front rower. He is an explosive runner and has a great offload.

I challenge anyone to tell me a time in recent history when a team won a premiership with an okay halfback as opposed to an awesome half back.

At the end of the day the half back is the most important player on the field.

We need to get our hands on someone decent. Keary may turn out to be a solid firstgrader but I don't really think he is the one. Of the options available he may be the best one but I don't think we should settle for that. I'd rather try and get Carney over.

Yes, its the standard forum guru selection methodology:

o Pick a fringe player into 1st grade
o If player cannot blow international oppositions apart after 1 game (2 if feeling generous):
-->o Badmouth player & his family on social media
-->o Sack the player & ensure de-registered from the NRL
o Continue process through all of the Top 25, NSW Cup & U20 squads are exhausted
o When noone has met expectation, sack the coach, CEO & recruit externally

2006 = Shane Perry with the Broncos
