King Gutho linked to Dragons

This nonsense of older players coming to our club and giving our younger players advice is BS, they just get fed up with not getting into first grade or losing their spot and go to other cubs. I am not a fan of signing Gutho or RCG, the only player I wanted from Parra snubbed us.
It's not though, every club needs to have experienced leaders in the team, especially in positions that matter. We clearly lacked that this year, especially in the backs. Guthos leadership and experience would offer double what Hunt did.

A team full of young players with no older experienced players would fail miserably.

Coz Dragon, I don’t care so much for younger verus older players. I simply want us to recruit good to top class players and elevate young players making a ‘splash’ in lower grades.

You do make a good point about experience, but just a little sprinkle of plus age 30s please.

I think Flanno would know he needs signings for 2025, if he is to secure a contract extension in 26.
Anything less than finals next year will be deemed a failure, and risk his future at the club.
Flanno would have to have a complete disastrous 2025, you keep changing coaches, you keep coming 12 to last.
People must remember it took Cronulla 2 years before making finals, whilst Flanno was there.

I think our chances of finals next year are no better than this year tbh, I think its going to be one of the hottest NRL comps ever in terms of competitive teams... with 4-5 good rosters absolutely flopping, none worse than souths, broncs, but parra, warriors too.

Our chances go up considerably if we do land 3-4 more upgrades.. which we are in the market for...

What will be interesting however is whether we can land any 2026 targets this time around after Nov 1.. or r we still a no go for players.

I feel exactly the same way, if Tedesco was an option i would take him in a heartbeat over Gutho. I just think that if Sloan is willing to learn from him, what he can offer will help set Sloan up to be the fullback we all want and need for the next decade.

I also want this to happen with the release of Hunt. As you said we just want a sprinkling of the 30+ players, but they need to be ones that offer what we need. I feel like Gutho would, whereas Hunt offers nothing.

Disagree. Hopefully the board (as inept as they are) finally realise they have the right coach after a decade of idiotic appointments.
The only issue holding us back now is the roster, with quality front rowers being the most urgent priority.
Improve the roster and Shane F will get us to the finals regularly and he'll be the coach for 5 + years.

I am not under estimating the Eels for next year. I think Ryles, who as we know the Dragons wanted, will be like Fitzy at the Sharks in his first year in 2022 as the head coach at Cronulla playing finals footy in fact coming second on the ladder in his first year and still in with a show for the grand final this year. Ryles has Nathan Brown as his assistant and he is very good. I think Rylesy could be better than Fitzy.

Ryles had very good mentoring from Bellamy at the Storm. Assistants under Bellamy have done better than assistants under Bennett.

Next years comp will be very interesting indeed. I expect 2 new teams to be in the top 8 with 2 from this year dropping out.

We should improve but would it be enough to make the finals. It all depends on who we eventually have in the squad and those needed signings to come good, if not, well, we just won't make it.

Bath's Babes won the comp in 1977 and won again in 1979.

Interesting that there was still a sprinkling of experience in 77 to go with the youth……
Goodwin had been on a Kangaroo Tour and played in a Grand Final; Mark Schulman experienced club player. Reddy had been in Semis and played for NSW teams, Stone Starkey and Edge, Bailey and Chapman had played in a Grand Final before. Reserves Barry Beath had played in 3 and represented Australia.

So your expectation is that the coaching experts in here will not be going nuts this time next year if we miss the finals again next season?

He has a contract already in 26. This one
No I mean in a years time, without making finals again next year it will be hard for him to earn an extension in early 26.. the pressure rises very quickly.
I think he is right coach btw, I just think his future will be tied to how well we perform next year. Hence, I would think we will be trying damn hard to pry players free of existing contracts to join next year rather than 26.

I for one (as a coaching expert) will have a better understanding of what Flanno is doing, rather than Hook, McPeanut and price who I had no time for, I think most of us would be willing to show leniency thinking the club is going in the right direction with Flanno.
