Missed the game. What was Korbin's brain explosion?

He took exception to Parra getting a 6 again call then tried to take a blokes head off. To be honest, I thought it looked lazy more than angry at the time. Play had just broken down due to the ball going to deck and everyone was sort of standing around wondering what comes next (as often happens for a moment when the players are expecting the refs whistle), then the Parra player comes through with the ball and Korbin sorta just swings his arm and collects him absolutely flush in the head/face. It looked pretty bad. I won't be surprised to see him get a month or more for it, given he's a Sims and it was blatantly high and with force.

Of course I could be remembering this all wrong. I've had a few. No need to judge.

One thing I remember crystal clear was Tariq not even considering passing or promoting the ball in any way during the entire 80 minutes. f**k me dead this guy shits me to tears. Trade him for Matthews and put the spare change in the f**king bank already.

I don't understand how this guy can get comprehensively outplayed week in, week out by a bunch of 20 year olds and then put his hand out around the place for more money.

Lachlan Fitzgibbon is the worst player to wear knights colours in the last 20 years.
Jaeleen Feeney will never be a first grader. He just looks nervous and predictable every time the ball comes near him

A few positives to come out of tonight:
- Sione looked good tonight and continues to play a physical brand of football
- Daniel Saifiti again! 18 hitups 173 metres 18 tackles 0 missed
- Sam Mataora 13 hitups 121 metres
- Jake Mamo looked good
- Nathan Ross wow! Can we please resign him asap?
- Best game Hodko has played in knights colours, looked great

I'd keep Jake at the back and Gagai can take Denniss wingspot

1.Jake Mamo
2.Dane Gagai
3.Sione Mata'utia
4.Nathan Ross
5.Aku Uate

I know when we're on the verge of getting rid of someone we tend to over-exaggerate their faults... but I honestly don't know what he's done for us besides be a name that people know. He got us Korbin maybe? Korbin is trying to spend more games on the sideline than his brother this year.

Korbin was here well before Tariq. Korbin played 20's for us for at least a season or 2.

Line up the halves in the comp from best to worst, where do you put him?

I am not going to rate the halves in this comp. Turn it up. Two reasons. One I think Hokko is one of the few genuine halfbacks running around. Playmaking is an overused term because the skill sets of the forwards and backs now are so great it is really about link ups and punching holes to exploit space. It can come from many points of attack. Not just first and second receiver. Hodkinson tonight was excellent at pushing players where he needed them and smart enough to let the team play what they saw in front of them. That is his strength. He is an organiser.

Take your pick, there were a few of 'em:

1. He breaks clean through the defense and is headed towards the line with only Gordon in front of him and Ross screaming for the ball on the inside. If Ross gets it, he's under the sticks untouched. Korbin goes for glory and tries to dummy past Gordon. Tries and fails. We end up settling for the penalty goal not long after

2. Beau scott aggressively tackles Korbin, taking him barely past the horizontal in the meantime. No penalty blown, so Korbin takes it into his own hands and throws the ball at Scott in anger. Luckily for Korbin the refs eventually blow the dangerous tackle penalty, otherwise it would've been a lost ball.

3. The swinging arm, as detailed above.

Just finished watching the game.

Such a good effort. Really wish we got the win.
If they turn up like that every week, this season will end up much more of a success than I had thought over the last month.

A few dud calls against us I thought.

The answer is bottom third, and you know it.

Absolutely. We have so many issues that pinpointing any particular one is always a touch futile, but I do think having backrowers who can't promote the football or create anything has a bigger negative impact than it's sometimes given credit for. It's why I was so disappointed to lose Tapine. Putting their contract values aside, I'd take Tapine over Tariq now and for the next 5 years. Not saying we definitely should have paid overs to keep him from the Raiders, but I'd certainly have paid a reasonable amount to have him instead of Tariq.

I hope this is an area Brown is really considering strategically in recruitment. Not just forwards, but forwards who offer something more than physicality alone. Whatever combination of Korbin / Rochow / Pauli / J Saifiti / Barnett / Lewis or whoever we use, I'll be happy Tariq has nothing to do with it.

Actually Pauli has improved out wide to be fair. Not sure he's the answer, but he does offer something we haven't had.

Jacob Saifiti will be the interesting one. Is he that wide forward? Is he going to blossom as quickly as Daniel has? Or he is better suited in the middle of the field?

Back from the game, and now thawed out. Christ it was cold.

Very happy with the effort the boys put in tonight. It was great to be the team the scored leading in to the end of the 1st half. So often we seem to concede points just before half time.

Ross got player of the match at the ground and rightly so. Keep him at left Centre he looked dangerous each time he touched the ball to the point that when it was getting late and we needed to score, Hodkinson passed the ball straight out to Ross.

Disappointing we fell away mid way through the second half with some dropped balls giving the momentum back to the Eels.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game today, and we nearly took it at the end. If a few things went our way, goal kicking, missed chances at the end and with Korbin. We could have easily won the match.

Can anyone remember the last time a young forward has stepped up for us the way Daniel Saifiti has of late?
Funny thing is watching him and his brother in NYC and NSW cup, I always thought Jacob was the better of the two

He's had a few niggling injuries before his wrist injury, iirc? Jacob showed plenty of positive signs in the early rounds of the competition, stats weren't as high but they were good for a backrower. Might be best putting him in the middle; if he and his brother make a competition of it then we'll have absolutely no problem in the middle for years to come.
