this leaves the following matches

England v France
Finland v Egypt
Jamaica v Greece
Switzerland v Tunisia

-------
Game 1 England v France
France dominated from the outset, but were let down by some sloppy finishing. England managed to hang on force extra time as the score remained 0-0 at the end of 90 minutes. Anelka broke France's duck in the 4th minute of extra time with the deft touch to put Les Blues in front. The growing threat of Michael Owen didn't seem to be enough as the French seemed in cruise control. Then right on que in the 117th minute of the match, Owen found space and beat Barthez with a cracking shot from the edge of the box. With penalties seemingly all but certain as the clock pasted the 120 minute mark, England launched one last raid, which managed to put Beckham into a pocket of space. He unleashed a dramatic shot that rattled the post. Owen was first to react to the rebound and cooly stroked it into the open net, giving England the most unlikely of victories. France's reputation as Konami chokers, remains firmly in tact for the time being. They now face a nervous wait to see if they'll get another game in a weeks time.

Game 2 ---
Finland 1 Egypt 0

Game 3 ---
Jamaica took an early lead through Nibblet Jones. Jamaica had a chance to go 2 up but Christensen's effort was well saved. Right on half time, Martin Denyer headed Greece level. The second half both sides defending grimly. But then as injury time settled, Martin Denyer nonchantly beat two defenders and then cooly placed the ball beyond a diving Warren Barrett. FFS. Jamaica 1 Greece 2

Game 4 ---
Switzerland 2 Tunisia 1 AET

Game 5 ---
A real nightmare this one. A double to Andy Cole and a strike from I'm guessing Michael Owen were enough to see England lead Jamaica 3-0 early in the second half. Jones pulled one back for the defending champs. But England then did a superb job stopping any further attacks, enough to send them into a semi final against Finland for a place in the final.

Game 6 ---
Greece v France - a classic

Game 7 ---
Finland v England

Game 8 ---
Switzerland v France/Greece

Game 9 ---
Grand Final

no.

konami cup xvi was won by switzerland ftr. beating finland 3-2 in the final.

konami cup xvii was completed overnight. the final for the 6th time, was between jamaica and switzerland, the top 2 sides from the round robin. switzerland had knocked out unlucky greece to reach the final, while jamaica eventually overccame croatia. morocco, norway, cameroon and nigeria had made up the top 8.

the final was certainly the most controversial of all time. jamaica ended the 90 minutes with ony 9 men on the field. even more remarkable was the fact that after extra time, they would be reduced to just 8. having been reduced to 9 men early in the second half, it was all the more remarkable that they came within seconds of lifting the title for the 5th time.

nibblet jones gave jamaica the lead on about the half hour mark. a lead the home side would take into half time. they would also go into half time down a man. switzerland should have found themselves in the same boat, but laurent aabbccbob somehow avoided a second yellow card. jamaica, didn't seem overly affected by the send off of frank sinclair, but in the end assmaster scored to level the game at 1-1. the game was about to see another twist. ian goodison was sent off for jamaica, when it seemed nothing but a foul. moments later however, christain coinco hacked down bobbins henry. by all accounts a third red card was to follow. instead the referee (that bastard) signalled for the free kick. nothing more. much to the bemusement of the jamaicans.

as injury time settled, jamaica won a corner. it was a pinpoint ball from bobbins henry which found nibblet jones who tucked it away. jamaica had the lead with 9 men, time all but up. but in one last sickening twist, cole te whiu surged downfield and won a corner. from the ensuing play roger poo scored a rare goal to take the game to extra time.

perhaps this might have broken the home side's spirit? but jamaica were starting to cause havoc on the counter attack. christensen found space, and set up jones who headed home a third for his hattrick. this left 21 minutes for the 9 men to hold on. que more drama. jamaica than found themselves down to 8, as theodore whitmore was marched. ffs. the jamaicans finally cracked, with 10 minutes to play. assmaster scored twice, before brian be cruely scored a 5th for switzerland. an unsavoury finish to an otherwise superb tournament.

switzerland 5 jamaica 3

i'd like to take this chance to pay tribute to the UAE. they had to win their last match to reach the top 8. salad gave them the lead after an hour. they seemed destined to make it through, but were stunned deep into injury by a semau speculator which leveled the score. one of the most sickening late goals in konami cup history. just imo.
