The Roosters have shown that they are ruthless, that they have no loyalty to players who don’t fit into their systems, and that their only priority is to win.

What a bunch of arseholes.

Wish my club was a bunch of arseholes.
Reminds me of that scene in Moneyball

Bit harsh on the young bloke. I think he could develop well in the Roosters system. Particularly with Keary only a few more serious head knocks away from early retirement.

However one major flaw in Flanagan's game is he never takes on the line, and backs himself. Apparently this is the hardest part to develop for halves. You see how natural runners of the ball (Wighton) can turn into halves because you can develop a kicking game and a passing game (Wighton a bit limited in this dept) but it's hard to develop a running game as it's quite instinctive and requires confidence - which Flanagan doesn't seem to have.

But even so there is talent there. He kicks well and is a decent support player. A few more years and he could improve in other areas.

They don't win the comp and their rookie half struggles so it's time for a new halfback? No thoughts that the coach might work with him, try to improve his game?

Could it be that Trent Robinson isn't a supercoach? Are the Roosters just good because they can buy the best players? So many questions...
No. Roosters don't develop - only buy.

Flanagan to explore options after Roosters deliver 2021 end date

Roosters No.7 Kyle Flanagan has been told he will not have his contract renewed beyond 2021, and will now weigh up interest from NRL rivals led by Canterbury as he exits the Bondi bubble.

Flanagan has dominated headlines and polarised opinion since the Tricolours season-ending loss to Canberra, with the Bulldogs publicly stating their interest in the 22-year-old this week.

NRL.com understands the Roosters have conveyed to Flanagan that teen prodigy Sam Walker and Lachlan Lam are viewed as the club's long-term halves options alongside Luke Keary.

The Roosters have made no official comment on Flanagan's future.

But after being told he has only a limited shelf life in red, white and blue, Flanagan is considered likely to request permission to begin negotiations with rival clubs.

Canterbury are believed to be leading the chase for the former Shark, having already planned to target Flanagan from November 1 when he came off contract.

Incoming Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett is understood to have Flanagan earmarked as a goalkicking playmaker to lead his Belmore rebuild.

Talks continue around injured veteran Blake Green staying in Newcastle, as an assistant coach or possible halves option, pending his recovery from a cruel ACL tear suffered a few weeks after signing with Canterbury.

Releasing Flanagan from the Roosters would free up much-needed salary cap space along with the retirement of Mitchell Aubusson, return to England for Ryan Hall and potential for Sonny Bill Williams to follow.

Despite talk of Mitchell Pearce being viewed upon for a Roosters return gaining traction on Wednesday, the club has nowhere near enough cap space for the Knights skipper to be a consideration for 2021.

Newcastle are set to pick up contract talks with the 31-year-old later in the summer, though there have been suggestions a pay cut may be put to Pearce.

At the Roosters, teen tyro Walker, the son of former Bronco Ben, has been highly rated since he arrived in last year's pre-season, training throughout 2020 as a member of the club's COVID-19 bubble without seeing any game time.

Trent Robinson is determined not to rush him into first grade before he is ready, but confidence is growing around Walker's ability to make the jump with another pre-season under his belt.

Walker will also come off contract on November 1, but it's understood there is no strong desire for him to go to market from his family at this stage.

and when will walker be ready ?.. 2021 ?
if he is a bit slow to deliver given his inexperience , is he next to go too ?

its called development , a word the roosters do not know the meaning of

Yeah, Walker could easily turn out like that ugly red headed halfback they had 5 years ago that was a massive red flop.

There is quite the meltdown on social media occurring over the roosters choosing to not re-sign a player.

That is as good a sign as any that we are making the right decision.

Why sign him in the first place and what about his mental well being, I mean the Roosters carry on about protecting their players, also blaming one player for their losses is a pretty poor effort, Flanagan doesn’t deserve this.
