He's in the top 30, he's available for selection. And he has actually played more first grade than all the fullback/wing options we have got. It's just unlikely he plays because we have players earmarked for those spots. Just stating the obvious.
Not too sure about this, but didn't Rappana have a few ordinary years in first grade before hitting top form at the Raiders?

Was Tariq ever going to leave us? No. Not after his sensational 2018 and the fact his brother is joining making him the third Sims boy to play for the Dragons.

Reckon Norman is also a good replacement for Gaz. I have one beef why did we resign duds Dufty and Aitken.

@Dragonsman4life
All we need is the youngest brother Ruan to sign and the whole family has played for the red and whites

We are kidding aren’t we surely this is not for real?
Just watched Millward’s presser and I love the KPI “he’s a really good person”
Couldn’t get a permanent gig in NRL got even less time in Rugby but we give him a home and Millward says he will be handy at SOO time also said the same of Allgood FMD that sort of talk shits me to tears.
We are already bog average in the centres and wing so let’s be even more so.
If you want to buy him do so but make it abundantly clear to the fans that he is ISP only and stop trying to justify yet another “bargain”
you are one grumpy old ****

I would rather that they kept Johns than signed Maranta.

I"ve just watched the Dragons TV interview with Maranta and what an uninspiring experience that was- he glossed over the last two years in Reds Rugby äs "not a good idea" and looked embarrassed and uncertain as to why he had come to the Dragons and what he wanted to achieve- he had already been described by Greg Martin as the worst signing he had seen for the Queensland Reds- yes- we have let some good- and younger- centre/wingers/ utility backs go- Mann, Johns, Herbert to name a few and his only positive seems to be that he knows korbin Sims well and a few of the ex Broncs- a depth signing?- on the face of it, depth in mediocrity. Another Millward coup.

Think your being a bit harsh there on him and the club. I watched it purposely after reading your comments and thought he was frank and humble in his interview....look embarassed..dont think so.
He said he tried rugby again but just admitted it was mistake in hindsight but still learnt stuff from it.
He knows he is not in the Dragons plans for 1st grade and for me he just wanted an opportunity to play league again even if it is reserves and just try to improve from there...who knows where it ends up.
It is a Mary signing..strange as it is as we lack 1st grade wingers and depth he is on I am told minimum contract..sot I am not certainly going to over-react and throw the toys out of the court with this signing..as I am constantaly told we have some good kids coming through for wing and left centre..very soon.

Mann was let go because as he just a 1st grader IMO at best and surplus to our needs..albeit he would fill in wing maybe better than some of those reserves..we will see. Brownie is trying to turn him into a hooker...good luck with that!
Herbert wanted to go home..OK. Johns..just because another club picked him up does not mean we lost there. Nothing special.
I here Manly reckon Reuben Garrick who they signed from us is their 1st choice as centre and is going to be something else.
No one has mentioned and basically forgotten him......Manly maybe a bit starry eyed with that one.
What I saw he had some pace but bad defence and errors galore.
Manly thought Nathan Green was special too!..LOL

Mate the above left for the reason of not being offered a contract ie Herbert wanted to go home because he had little to consider. Point is what has been purchased hasn’t been better than what we let go.

Considering the Club spent a whole lot of time and money developing Herbert, you would think that a qualified official from the Club whould have tried to help him come to the decision to stay. From where I sit he is the type of left centre we need in first grade.

Herbert's value was reduced when Millward signed our two very average centres long term and thus blocked the path of others coming through. Mary's favourites policy reinforced the Club's position on the preferred NRL first grade centre combination so, Herbert had no where to go but out.

I doubt very much that any effort was made to keep Herbert and that a reasonable contract was even offered. I mean why keep and develop players only to let them go at the time when they may finally be of use to us?

Do you know why Dragons did not offer Herbert a contract and why he had liitle to consider apart from going home?...1 he really wanted to and no other offers

Norman and promotion resigning of young future stars V Mann and 2 players never played 1st grade.
Point is...we are in no worse position either than last year and the poster was highlighting Maranta on minimal money being added to our Top 30 and letting those 3 go.

We still have 1 position to fill yet...dont forget.. by June 30. And it is supposed to be an outside back of quality, so they say. We will see.

But the good young stars in our club highlighted are the ones we need to sign 1st and leave salary cap room for
TSims & Dufty done, Robson, Lawrie, maybe Kerr, Lomax extended past 2020, Marsters...just off the top of my head.

Beacuse they all dont develop into what you expect and dont you think there was a reason we did not keep Herbert?..especially the club have been vocal they still looking for quality outside backs. 1 more to sign this year!
What happened to the "he actually did want to go home like Ahmau"..do you stop to consider that too or it is all recruitment's fault for not seeing what you perceive is right.
Where were all the offers from other NRL clubs?
I watched a lot of ISP last year and I agree with the club for not making him high priority over some others
The younger stars we have coming through + his training ethic was not best. He had great attacking skills but defence and error rate high
Lafai and Aitken signing in 17 had nothing to do with Herberts value to our club.
Herbert himself proved his value.

Well I suppose that everyone has their own point of view and so who's to know the right move without knowing all the facts. It just seems to me that over the past few years we have seen some good players move on, some blocked by average players and some good players not signed because of cap restrictions.

Decisions made by SGI Club officials have a great influence on the Club's ability to field the best possible squad each season.
