Well I don't think Kearney himself would have been forced to attend the AGM if he wasn't forced to. It's only the board and CEO who are required to attend and front the public. The fact that Kearney and all the players were in attendance and show ponied about shows that was a decision made from above. They wouldn't have been there voluntarily, none of them. There's pressure on the board, but from what I've heard from those that attended last night it was a complete circus.

Let them eat Crow: Parramatta's past greats embarrassed and disappointed over AGM

THE decision by Parramatta officials to allow under-fire players to face disgruntled supporters at the club's AGM this week has been slammed by some of the Eels' most famous names.
Steve Sharp, a former premiership winner who was at Parramatta Leagues Club when the entire squad stood on stage at Tuesday night's meeting, said he was embarrassed to be a former player of the club, while the players' involvement earned the ire of one of the most mild-mannered of Eels greats, Michael Cronin. ''They [the board] are the people that were elected to run the football club, they are the ones who should front the people on that night,'' Cronin said. ''The footballers and the coach front up every Saturday and Sunday; an AGM is a time for the people that run the club, the board. I just don't think the players should have to go through it. Does it belittle them? I don't know. But did any of them look comfortable going there?''
Sharp, who played in four straight grand finals in the early 1980s for the club, said: ''It was very disappointing. From my perspective, I was down the front and I could see the tension on some of the players' faces. I was embarrassed to be an ex-Parramatta player.''
Another Eels premiership winner, Peter Wynn, said he was surprised that the players were put in the position of facing Eels supporters so publicly, after a one-from-nine start to the season. ''I've never seen anything like that before,'' Wynn said.
He is likely to see it again though. Eels chief executive Bob Bentley, in defending the decision to make the players and under-siege coach Stephen Kearney front the meeting, said the club was happy with how the night played out and were planning to do the same again.
''The board felt that the AGM was an opportunity for the players to come along,'' Bentley said. ''From my understanding, it's not the first time that sort of thing has happened … But the way they presented themselves last night was something we'll continue to do in the future.
''Regardless of whether we're last or first, we'll probably continue to do it at each AGM.''
Bentley rejected any assertion that the decision to let the players take the stage was an attempt by the board to take the focus off them.
''There's no intention to take the focus off the board,'' he said. ''The whole focus of putting the players there was to be transparent to our fans and give them an opportunity.
''At some point we would have had to do that … if the performances of the team kept going in the direction it was going, we would have had to have some circuit-breaker to do that, so we felt that the AGM was an appropriate time to do that, because we knew that there would be an opportunity for fans to turn up and take that opportunity to put them in front of them.''
Bentley said he had addressed the players earlier in the day, and maintained there was no animosity from them about being made to stand on stage.
''I addressed them in the morning, just in terms of running through what the process was for the evening,'' he said. ''None of them indicated, 'Why do we have to front up?'
''That wasn't front of mind for them … We've all got to work hard.''

Eels great slams AGM exhibition

Parramatta chief executive Bob Bentley has defended the decision to make the struggling Eels squad face the music at the NRL club’s annual general meeting despite criticism from one of club’s all-time greats.
Former Test centre Michael Cronin – who played in all four of Parramatta’s premiership-winning sides – claimed neither the players, nor under-fire coach Steve Kearney, should have been subjected to fronting the masses at Parramatta Leagues Club on Tuesday night.
“The footballers and the coach front up every Saturday and Sunday – an AGM is a time for people running the club – the board – that’s their job,” Cronin said.
“I just can’t see where it gets any value out of it.
“I just don’t think the players should have to go through it.
“Does it belittle them? – I don’t know. Did any of them look comfortable going there?”
In unprecedented scenes, the entire Eels squad stood on stage as Kearney and skipper Nathan Hindmarsh spoke to the members.
There were suggestions the presence of Kearney and the players would help smother some of the anger from members directed at board members.
Bentley dismissed that notion, before admitting it was a practice the club would continue into the future.
“There’s a lot of hype in the media about the players fronting the AGM to face the music, which really wasn’t the intention,” Bentley said.
“It was to show a united front.
“The team’s performance in the early part of the season hasn’t been up to standard, the fans are obviously disappointed, and so are the team, the coaching staff and the board.”
“I addressed them (the players) in the morning (Tuesday), just in terms of running through what the process was for the evening.
“None of them indicated ‘why do we have to front up?’.”
Having already called in Kearney for a ‘please explain’ last month and now putting him and the players before the members, it’s hard to see where the Eels board can turn next should the team’s poor on-field performances continue.
Kearney declined interview requests on Wednesday, but Bentley said things were being done to help turn the club’s fortunes around.
They have been linked to a number of players coming off contract at rival clubs – most notably Manly back-rower Tony Williams – Bentley admitting the playing roster had to improve.
“… some of the fans feel that they (the current Eels players) may not be the players that will take us ahead this season or next, and we obviously need to look at strengthening in some key positions,” Bentley said.
“Our recruitment manager Peter Nolan is actively looking at strengthening some of those roles.
“I think we’ve got some work to do there.”

I'm pretty sure he was on the far left of the stage (looking at the stage) at the back, behind the Mannah boys. As i was about to enter the auditorium, the team walked in and i remember seeing him then as well. So yes, i'm certain Shack was there.

Im pretty sure it was shack whose question to Steve Kearney got shut down.

so basically we just try and copy everything Melbourne does - copy their coach, copy their playing style, copy the wanky shit they did where all the players stood behind the coach when they cheated (or in our case flopped) .... its all working so well - can we just get their accountants in now?

For what it's worth, Luke Burt was interviewed on the BSB this morning (mostly re. 250th game this weekend). He was asked about the AGM and he said only Kearney and Hindmarsh were asked to attend. The players decided, on their own accord, that they would attend in support the coach and captain.

All very noble, but perhaps this time may have been better spent on defensive drills. The AGM ended up looking like a choreographed fiasco.

So, that puts to rest the speculation that the board forced them to go and take the heat of themselves.
Next conspiracy theory?

And if they hadn't been there the media and others would have gone with the line that all the players should have been there to face the music. Can't win either way.

That's what happens when you're the worst team in the comp I guess.
