Leagues club AGM 2012

I am not going to go into detail about what was and wasn't raised and discussed at the AGM last night.
Anyone who was there already heard it and anyone who is a member can request a copy of the minutes when they are available. I am planning to try and arrange a sit down with Mr Bentley to discuss some of my concerns coming out of the meeting last night and some ideas i have for improvement.

One comment i will make however is about something that SK raised in his address and not in response to a question from the floor. He said that before accepting the role, he knew there were problems that
needed to be fixed, however it was only after he started that he realised the problems ran deeper than he thought. That was an interesting comment and i think has something to do with our salary cap structure and our roster and how we haven't been able to spend what we need to build the team up in just 2 years.

That's interesting considering that the only players that would impact the cap to any great extent are Hayne, Sandow and Hoppa. The rest of the players who were signed or re-signed who would be on decent coin would be departing this year or their "top ups" would be winding up (Hindy, Poore, Shack, Smith, Burt, Morts, Tahu).

how did he have a practicle 5 year plan if he wasn't aware of the full extent of the problems that needed fixing.
His 5 year plan must have been nothing more than a marketing ploy to promote himself.

His 5 year plan was what the board wanted, he could have just copied Bellamy's.

The board didn't seem to want anything else other than a plan, he had no coaching experience to really back it up! International footy is not week in week out 24+ games a year. It is 4 or 5 games with the elite players from your country and he hasn't even been consistent at that!

His only claim to fame is the world cup that was tainted by having Bennett on the coaching staff!

I knew he had never coached a junior team or NSW Cup etc. yet Delboy seemed surprised that he hadn't and that the board obviously hadn't either........

The plan sounds great, Nolan is clearly impressive but the execution so far has been extremely poor!

Glad I didn't waste my time last night!

Bob Bentley is looking more and more of a fool with his pre-season talk about contract extensions. We really need someone with more football experience running the NRL team at top level.

I'd like to know what kind of role he actually had at Melbourne. Head coaches give different roles to their assistant coaches depending on what's required of them. Did he simply run training drills, did he have a hands on approach with the players, did he communicate tactics with them, did he come up with ideas himself and advise Bellamy...

His 5 year plan must have been nothing more than a marketing ploy to promote himself.

It is standard practice when applying for any management role to go into the interview process with an outline of a plan. Be it for 5 years or 100 days and one of the first things in that plan should be to validate any assumptions you made as an outsider looking in (the view is always different when you get there). And YES, it is a marketing ploy to promote yourself, but what interview process anywhere does not require the candidates to market themselves?

But part of this marketing is also to show "why" the recruiter should believe you have the ability to implement the plan and /or adjust as needed.

What I find more interesting and potentially discerning is that the Board and Osborne may not have:
- fully validated the credentials of the candidate;
- fully understood the depth of the problems in the football club (this may be likely given that SK's KPIs we seemingly set too high);
- bought into SK's plan without fully understanding the cost of implementing it (i.e. some years in the wilderness before improvement);

Or maybe they did which is why they are continuing to support SK and the 5 year plan.

So I read on nospam46 that there were rumblings about the sale of the Viking Club, that local residents and sporting groups are pissed and that the motion came across a tad dodgy ? Then Fitzy said that he would be taking the matter to Racing and Gaming ?

What's all these shenanigans then ?

Osborne was a flop but at the very least he had some football knowledge.

Bentley is dangerously underqualified for this role... but we all know why he's there and therefore that won't change any time soon.

He was underqualified when appointed, nothing has changed and this is the result.

It was an exceptionally close vote, and split the AGM.

You might even know one of the vote counters as he staggers along counting.

And that once again highlights the ridiculous setup that we have going! :crazy:

Of course its a Leagues CLub AGM so there needs to be time to talk about the physical club, its books, its financial situation investments etc etc

Oh but we don't really have much time to talk about how the NRL thing is going ... thats just some side thing that can't be talked about anywhere else cos nowhere else is really relevant cos the Leagues Club actually controls the NRL stuff - unless we decide to put on a footy forum once in a blue moon (at a time convenient to our situation).

We don't have time to talk about the thing that is the reason for the club's existance in the first place, the reason that most ppl who turn up to the AGM actually joined.

Its stupid.

Nail on the head...not expecting a fan forum anytime before Parramatta collect a wooden spoon come seasons end.

Is it a good time to sell? How's the property market out in the sticks?
