PENRITH Panthers and Australian Test star Luke Lewis has confirmed he has signed a four-year deal with the Cronulla Sharks.

Lewis rang the Sharks this morning to confirm he would be taking up their offer.

He also also telephoned rival clubs Newcastle, West Tigers and Parramatta to inform them he had signed elsewhere.

More to come....

If you told me at the end of last season that going into the 2013 season we would have added Carney, Lewis and Michael Gordon I would not of believed you. Fantastic effort...

Carney and Lewis are probably the two biggest names that have been on the market and changed clubs in the past two years and they've joined us. Amazing.

Cronulla have won the race for Penrith's representative forward and deposed captain Luke Lewis.
It's believed Lewis, who sought a release from the Panthers, has agreed to a four-year deal with the Sharks.
Wests Tigers, who were also vying for the signature of the back-rower, were informed of the decision this morning.
An official announcement is expected later today.

With a new coach Ivan Cleary rebuilding the Panthers, Lewis is the most high-profile casualty to date at the club. He was stripped of the club captaincy during the State of Origin period, before he asked for a release from the Panthers after the representative series ended.
His friendship with Sharks captain Paul Gallen, as well as his former Penrith teammate Wade Graham, now at Cronulla, no doubt played a role in his decision, as did his desire to live in the area.

Merged the threads on this one... If the mail from Frenzy is true(and it has been so far) we really should thank Graham for helping out on this one!

Congrats.

Always had a bit of a soft spot for the Sharks, good to see your club doing so well after some pretty lean years.

So how does this affect your team? Direct replacement for Smith? Does this push Gallen to the front row or Graham to bench utility?

This is honestly fantastic news for the club. It really shows how far the Sharks have come and in the words of Flanno "making it a club that elite players want to come play for". Effing love it
