It should be a strategic goal of the RFL to encourage investors to start professional Rugby League clubs in all major cities, and provide fair opportunity for them to challenge for Super League.
In a sustainable manner of course, you can't have 5 or 6 new big money clubs popping up all at once without the player pathways growing significantly.

But long term, they should be actively scouting for club backers all across the UK. Like we've seen with Toronto, one success leads to others following.

Liverpool
Manchester
Birmingham
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Dublin
Belfast
Cardiff

The big problem with that model is it is built on a house of cards. If the investor gets bored or realizes that his money is never going to produce a return they are gone and the club falls over. We saw it at London, Wales, PSG, Widnes, Leigh and may well see it at Salford now Koucash as has taken his cash and legged it. Toronto would be gone tomorrow if the backer pulls out. Its a big risk for the RFL.

London, Wales, Widnes and Leigh obviously all still exist.
The biggest risk is short term. If Toronto collapsed tomorrow I doubt anyone would pick up the pieces. But time builds a following and with a following comes people who care enough to keep it going in some form if the first backer leaves.

Time also allows teams like Toronto to find and secure lucrative sponsorship and tv deals.

I didn’t say they ceased to exist, I said they fell over, which they all did with a very large thud. Some got back up, some are barely staggering and some stayed down.

Having said that Bradford are an example that having large revenue from other sources is no guarantee of survival in RL!

Why? They’re basically servicing the same regions.
People from Manchester and Liverpool don’t travel to support Salford and St. Helens. Both cities of Manchester and Liverpool have populations of 500,000+

I’ve no doubt though that people from St. Helens travel to support both Liverpool fc and Everton and people from Salford travel to support both Man Utd and Man City in football.

Salford is 4km from Manchester cbd (closer than old Trafford,) where exactly would you base a Manchester team? If mancs are interested in following rl theyve already got a SL club in the city. If the names the problem change the name.

Etihad campus. North east Manchester.

Why don’t Perth RL fans follow the broncos or south’s instead of wanting their own team?

Seriously? Your comparing a club that plays in the middle of Manchester to a team from a city 4000kms away that don’t play in Perth?
Yeh why don’t perth RL fans fly to Brisbane every fortnight to watch the broncos lol

Half of the bastards are FIFO so I doubt a 4 hour flight would phase them...

Not comparing them at all. The point I’m making is that maybe people who live in Manchester like Perth would rather follow their own city team. That’s all.
