For us to play finals football this year, well it's just about impossible. Some will be screaming why rest Hunt etc, the truth is, making the eight there are a number of calculations, none of which are favourable to us. The equation is something like this with 8 round left to play
14th - Dragons 14 points f/a -78
13th - Broncos 15 points f/a -64
12th - Warriors 15 points f/a -35
11th - Tigers 16 points f/a -60
10th - Cowboys 16 points f/a -57
9th - Sharks 16 points f/a -8
8th - Panthers 18 points f/a -71
7th - Knights 18 points f/a +49
6th - Eels 20 points f/a +23
So, current 7th and 8th have a 2 win advantage, ie: we would need to win 3 games more than they would.
The issue of course is that the teams above us play each other over the final 8 rounds, so one (or both in case of a draw) will receive the 2 points. example:
Warriors play the sharks, eels and sharks again
Broncos play the cowboys, panthers and eels (throw in they play the dogs twice and tians as well)
Tigers play knights, cows, knights again, us and sharks
Sharks play warriors, cows, panthers, us, warriors again and tigers
Panthers play us, sharks, broncos, cows and knights
Knights play tigers, eels, cows, tigers and panthers
As for us, I can only really see us with 3 maybe 4 wins in the remaining games, that will only get us to maximum 22 points. Teams above us would therefore have to lose ALL of their remaining games, which given the remaining schedule of who plays who, well that will be impossible. Winning 6 of our remaining 8 games would still only get us to 26, which means the Eels would have to lose 6, Knights 5, Panthers 5, Sharks 5, etc of their remaining 8 games.
Our 2019 campaign is shot, based on facts, nothing other than a Divine miracle, will change that. We are not playing for our season anymore, but let's just see some pride in the jumper.
