Cesc sold to Barca.

Is he officially the world's most expensive bench player of all-time? I hope they use fine oak to make ther benches in Catalunya because he'll want to get comfy to watch all the key matches.

Certainly seems that way. All we're waiting on is an official announcement from either club. I'll be happy once it's finally completed as it'll allow the starting XI to be named and the entire squad can focus on football, rather than who will be where.

Another expensive bench player. Much like Adebawh*re, Hleb, Flamini, Henry and Clichy.

If Arsenal use this money to sign Mata and Gary Cahill then they'll be a better team IMO.

Agreed. Even if Cesc stays, he wont feature in in the first few matches of the season anyway.

I agree CC....i'm not saying we go out and spend like Man C, but just that we replace those who need to be replaced and gain in positions we struggle mightely in as is. Without this we will never wina trophy. Arsenes way has not worked, time to try something different.

Our biggest problem in subsequent years is not that our XI isn't good enough. Our A team has shown that it is good enough to win the league - wins over all of the 'big six'.

The main issue is that our B squad is not good enough to fill in when required. Substituting Vermaelen for Squillaci, Theo for Bendtner, Sagna for Eboue, Song for Denilson and so forth. This is why signing a player like Dann is a great move IMO.

I'm just hoping that we see some use of the Cesc money before the end of the month.

Gourcuff
Cahill
Mata

Chezzy

Sagna-Cahill-Vermaelen-Gibbs

Song

Wilshere- Nasri/Gourcuff

Theo/Gervinho - Mata

RvP

Qual-i-ty.

On the rumor front, The Mirror has us heavily linked with Jadson from Shakhtar. Who was apparently in London for talks during the week.

Current Brazillian international, MOTM in the 2009 Europa final and a 'flashy' style midfielder I believe. Looks promising.

Vela has also been linked with yet another loan move. This time to Real Sociedad.

On the injury front : Wilshere is out for Newcastle and possible Udinese. RvP, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Arshavin and Koscielny will all play.

So what will bring your belief back in Wenger and Arsenal, it has been a pretty meh transfer window and losing the likes of Cesc/Nasri is virtually impossible to replace but i want him to make an effort and bring in some people.

Cahill or Samba and Mata or Hazard will bring a bit of faith back for me.

This is it for me. If the team doesnt produce this season for whatever reason, he needs to go. Past glories can only get him so far.

surely you guys have enough cash for Mata now, not that I'd be disappointed if you didn't, we've bid about 2 mill more than you guys at this stage but he's pretty much said he'd rather be a gooner and play CL footy

he'd look better in the Spurs strip imo

lol no thanks. One of Wengers biggest blunders was letting Toure go and keeping that clown Gallas.

Agreed.

Although he would have been mad to turn down that amount of cash for him.

In Wengers defence, it's not as if he hasn't made bids for players. It's public knowledge that he has bid for Cahill, Jagielka and Mata this window. I can only assume that he was been waiting on the conclusion of the Nasregas situation (which is out of the clubs hands), so he is aware of exactly how much cash there is to play with before making further moves for players.

Every season for the past few Arsenal and Arsene have been written off, and yet every season the club goes close to honours in all competitions. I'll wait until the conclusion of this season before I form an opinion on Arsene's future. Only a failure to finish in the top four could jepordise his job. It's easy for people to call for his sacking or resignation, but if such a thing eventuates, what's next? Who's the replacement? Would they be willing to continue playing 'the Arsenal way'?

Arsene's job is one of the safest in the league. Only SAF is more untouchable than Arsene.

It was more to do with access to the ground i think but i see your point.
United - West Brom is at risk, but i doubt a few looters are going to trouble 3000 travelling United supporters. It would be funny to watch them try. ITs only if the Police can't cope will it be cancelled.

Back to Arsenal. Its not just Fees, its also Wages. Neither Spurs or Arsenal offer big wages compared to other teams so they struggle to get the big names.
Wengers mistake was not selling Toure, but keeping a clearly not good enough Gallas and not replacing them with premier quality. Wenger still has something to prove in that he has not won the league with a team made up of his own players. He inherited a very good side, with very good players that his new signings could play with and learnt of. He has replaced them all now with kids.
Why sell Gilberto Silva, ship out Pires, or let Flaminis contract run down? These are the guys that he should of kept to help the next generation. Instead it was all down to Fabregas, and now he has gone.

I read a quote this morning from Arsehole that he is not after Juan Mata, if true I'd be pissed if I was a gooner

Wenger rules out buying Juan Mata

Published 22:59 12/08/11 By Darren Lewis

arsene-wenger-arsenal-cropped

He spoke like a cross between Comical Ali and the captain of the Titanic.
Eyebrows rose and fell like a Mexican wave among those watching Arsene Wenger declare – 24 hours after conceding the *opposite – that he was not expecting either Cesc Fabregas or Samir Nasri to leave Arsenal.

A negotiating position it may have been, but it added to the growing feeling that the Gunners' manager had become football’s answer to King Canute – a man desperately trying to stop the inevitable.

It also fuelled the growing feeling that the Frenchman is cracking under the combined pressure of trying to hold on to his stars, keeping disgruntled fans on side and maintaining the players’ belief in his vision.

Nonetheless, he decreed he would not allow his side to use the club’s chaotic summer as an excuse for failing to impress against Newcastle in their season opener.

“It does not stop any of our players from making a good pass once you are on the pitch," said Wenger.

“When you are on the pitch, you play to win. I have seen much more difficult *circumstances – people who lost their parents and are playing the next day and being the best man on the pitch.

"You cannot say you are a top player and yet be disturbed because there is a transfer market happening. It’s a joke.”

Many Arsenal fans do not share the ‘joke’, with many of the issues facing the club at the end of last season still unresolved with the Premier League about to return.

Despite the world and his wife being well aware that Fabregas has no intention of staying, Wenger admitted he has not yet considered who would be Arsenal's new captain.

And despite the demand for a highly-rated, experienced replacement for the Spaniard, Wenger ruled out the signing of Valencia winger Juan Mata.
He said: “We will not do [a deal for] Juan Mata. I don’t have to give a reason, we will not do it.”

Although fans are clamouring for a new centre-half, Wenger hinted the closest they may get is the return to fitness of Thomas Vermaelen.
“We will have a new centre-back by the end of the transfer window - because Vermaelen only played five games last year," he said.

“To buy just for the sake of buying, you won’t find me there. If I’m convinced the player has the *qualities, I will always do it if he’s better than the players we have.

“We have specialised people to work everywhere. Everybody looks for centre-backs in the whole world. People with unlimited resources look for a centre-back.

"We are not in a supermarket where you go to a shelf and you ask 'Where are the centre-backs or the strikers?'”

Supporters waiting for more experience to be added elsewhere in the side are unlikely to be pleased.

“We have two markets: one is internal and one is external,” said Wenger.

“Internal is the young players that we have - players who are inside the club are very important.

“Externally, if I’m convinced a player brings some extra qualities to the squad, we will always buy him - maybe even overpay a little bit.

“But to pay three or four times the price, you must really be convinced that this is the player you need.

"At the moment, we have not found that player.”
