My thoughts :

* Gervinho was the best player on the field.
* Koscielny was a close second.
* Joey Barton is still the biggest merkin in world football.
* Gibbs and Sagna need to thoroughly work on their crossing.
* It’s only the first game, the rust will soon disappear.
* Rosicky played well, some crisp passing and nice touches. But the lack of match fitness soon became evident.
* Frimpong is an absolute beast.

Liverpool who have spent 40m+ in this window alone (don't forget Carroll and Suarez either) couldn't beat Sunderland at home.

To draw Newcastle away, on the first game of the season, without Cesc or Nasri, with a man down and a squad already carrying injuries is not a bad result IMO. Not brilliant (anything less than a win never is), but given the context if I was offered the result a week ago, I'd take it everytime.

The two most worrying things are the bench :

Fabianski – Jenkinson – Djourou – Frimpong – Chamberlain – Walcott – Chamakh

We have three debutants. Two of which played their last game in League One and a half fit Walcott.

And the suspensions :

Take Gervinho and Song out of the Liverpool game (I presume he'll be banned for 2-3 matches for stomping) and our already stretched depth is looking even worse. Unless some signings are made within the next week.

Speaking of, Cahill was impressive last night - even if it was against QPR. The Mirror are reporting that Steve Rowley will report to Arsene today whether to proceed with a bid or not. His buy out clause I believe is roughly 16.5m. Which IMO, is a much better deal than 20m for Jagielka.

On the injury front I'm not sure whether Jack will play against Undinese - we can only hope.

One more hugely notable point which I and a lot of people have missed is that Gervinho has been handed #27. Which of course is Eboue's number. Confirming that the latter Ivorian has played his last game for Arsenal.

Did Gervinho get a straight red or was he booked for the dive then immediately booked for touching Barton? It wasn't even a slap. Barton goes and does exactly the same thing that he was whinging about Gervinho doing.

Straight red for the 'slap'.

Back to Arsenal. Its not just Fees, its also Wages. Neither Spurs or Arsenal offer big wages compared to other teams so they struggle to get the big names.
Exactly. Arsenal's total wages actually aren't far behind Man Utd's, but their top players are on significantly less. Arsenal's problem is that they pay their young kids more than anyone else does, but then those kids have less scope to improve their wages as they become top players.

Yeah straight red. It was always going to boil over after Song stomped on Bartons leg a few minutes earlier.

Barton did exactly what Diaby did in the corresponding fixture last year, yet only Diaby was sent off?

Damn Johnny Foreigners..Divin' n such.

I think that Gervinho was clipped, but probably not enough to bring him down. Compare that to Barton's theatrics and Steven Taylor's carrying on accusing that he was elbowed. And Toon fans question why their club is hated?

Barton did EXACTLY what he was angry at Gervinho for and he wonders why Capello won't pick him?

Absolut joke but if it was boiling over I can see where the ref may have been coming from, didn't watch the game so I'm going by FSN.

Really, really rubs it in.

I deliberately have avoided any footage of the press conference and merely stumbled upon that picture on another forum.

Shows you where his heart is. Which he can't be blamed or critcised for. If Wilshere had played in France since he was sixteen and returned to Arsenal, it'd be the exact same.

It's the 'tapping up' from the fu*kwits like Xavi, Puyol and Pique that sh*s me.

Vermaelen and Woj were awesome this morning.

Now Wenger needs to sign Cahill and Hazard then I may be optimistic about the season.

Eboue has been sold to Galatasaray, even though he wasn't the best I loved Eboue, such a character and loved the club, I wish him all the best. Vela has also gone out on loan for the season.

Also, I feel that we need to bring in 2 midfielders and at least a CB, we have the money, let's use it

Yep Eboue got a bad rap imo. Like you said, seemed to really love the club and his team mates. Will be missed.
