Edwards isn’t worth over a million

he’s an excellent player in the Penrith system

I’d pay him 800k

same with luai he’s worth the same not more

if I had to pick one to keep it would be Edwards on no more than 800k

shame they never kept Burton

It’s objectively easier to find a fullback than a half, and Penrith have produced a shit ton of fullback options and have more coming

consider that edwards style of fullback isn’t a ball player and finding an athlete who can run hard and link up with the halves is pretty easy

but I think edwards has a unique role in this team in terms of grounding it a little
It’s a team that could very easily lose itself up their own arse whilst smelling their farts and guys like Edwards and Yeo just provide that calm and grounding influence that keeps them on track

player wise I think you’d rather keep Luai but specifically for this panthers team, I think they’d pick edwards if they had to choose

and I agree with the post above, Luai is actually a really good player. He’s also the most unlikable player in the comp and I think that really colours people’s views. But Luai can f**king play.

I seem to have the total opposite opinion on these two that everyone else does.

Luai: This guy is actually a f*#king gun. He, Munster and Walker are neck and neck the best 3 five eighths in the game. Deadly running game, terrific ball player, great short kicking game and I never see the dude miss a tackle. I get that hes a pretty unlikable dude, and I guess that effects peoples opinions on his game. Put it this way, if Penrith were to lose he or Clearly for a finals series theyd be much better off losing Nathan. Its been shown that what he brings can be replaced, I dont think they can bring another Luai up too easily. Anyone else find it a coincidence a 30 year old journeyman in Sorensen is suddenly a gun after he replaces Kikau? Its because of who is passing them the ball.

Edwards: Has become the most over rated player in the game bar none. Look the guy can play, but hes nowhere near what gets made out. I find it hilarious when people call for him to replace Tedesco for NSW. What exactly will he do better? Teddy is still making 200ms a game, which is all the Edwards fan club talks about. He doesnt bring anything in attack and I see him have one clanger mistake every game (tonight with the horrendous pass to Turuva on a kick return). He would be smart to stay at Penrith on $500-$600k for his career. If he goes to somewhere like the Dragons or Knights on big money he'd get blasted for being 'under whelming' as a big money player in a poor team and end up in the ESL in 3 years.

I think you're a bit harsh on Sorro.

He's been an absolute gun since coming to Penrith.

Everyone looks at Lenui's runs as being great bench impact but Sorro has excellent footwork that has caused all sorts of problems against tiring middle forwards the past few years. I rate him that high he is on the bench in my all time Panthers team. The sort of player Bellamy would turn into a star in years gone by.

I agree somewhat with Edwards. He is the perfect FB for Pantherball and would be about the same as CNK in another system.

That said Souths looked more likely with Taafe than Latrell against Penrith in actual big games so it'd be interesting to see how they'd go with an Edwards type FB.

Edwards.

His last couple weeks haven't been the best. But there hasn't been a safer fullback in the game for a few years now. Penrith are far and away the best defensive side in the competition and he plays a massive part in that. His work in the finals the last couple of years has been outstanding.

I like Luai but I could cop losing him. I think he can be replaced like for like. You can replace Edwards' run metres but it's largely unquantified what he is doing in defence.

Penrith would be mad to keep luai over Edwards if that is the choice.

luai is a massively overrated flat track bully who can only play off the front foot. His garbage attitude is fine to carry while you are the best team in the comp but it won’t work when the rebuild inevitably begins.

Edwards is a no frills clubman who you can build a culture around. He’ll quietly average 200m per game and ensure every set gets started off right doing the pig work coming out of your own end. Doesn’t have the flair in attack but that’s what the halves are for

When I was over in Aus a couple months back, I caught some of that crappy 100% footy on 9 for the first time. This question was raised. Gus said they should keep Luai over Edwards. I raised my eyebrows. Luai can play no doubt, but he's mainly just a good foil for Nate.

Edwards for sure. Bloke gets through a mountain of work that helps his halves play on the front foot. Great kick return to start off each set. Great 4th tackle carry with a quick play the ball to make the kick easier.

He's also more than handy in the opposition 20. Not as flashy as a few other fullbacks. But Edwards contributions are by far the most reliable.
