There were kids like Sammut and Jennings who were going to save us from that mess too iirc.

How long are we going to blame Elliott and Leary before requiring answers of our current administration?

I can understand shitty onfield performances, I can understand having to shed someone like Gordon who needed a major upgrade, I can understand a lot of the stuff that's happened in the past 15 months, but this absolutely reeks of something very wrong with our current management.

Losing a bloke like Luke just shouldnt happen with 2 years left on his contract.[/QUOTE

Thanks to Mick Leary five players account for as much as half our allotted salary cap. Do you honestly believe Phil Gould was going to be able to correct the mess in 18 months and turn us into premiership contenders.

Lewis is gone, but frankly if I was our CEO let's not stop here let's try and offload the overpaid and underperforming Coote, McKendry and Jennings. Ain't gonna happen because there is no braindead CEO out there who will pay anywhere near what we pay them and we can't afford the top ups. Catch 22.

Only Tim Grant is earning his pay check and he is our future who I have no doubt will always give 100% and is worth what he is being paid.

As I have posted previously I am sick to death of reading about player unrest at the Panthers.

There has been player unrest for longer than I care to remember at the Panthers and it is more about player culture than Ivan Cleary and Phil Gould.

The Luke Lewis situation is disappointing and a sad end to a great career with the Panthers but ultimately it is the best decision for Luke and his family.

I will judge Ivan Cleary and Phil Gould in say 2016 when they have been given a reasonable amount of time to turn us into a premiership force again.

spot on age. Petero & Lewy. Both played under great coaches never had an issue. Both guys that just do their job. Both got shown the door answers are needed.

Kilkenny. We have $200k of long serving player allowance to use. Lewis is the only 1 eligible. So that puts him on the books for $250k. So you get him for the price of Smith etc. certainly not overpaid.

This is about as bad as it could get for me. With the exception of maybe Grant I don't care who else leaves now the worst has been done. They want scorched earth, fine. They are halfway there already. They can have a chance to try it their way. They are going to get it anyway. This club will find out it has a lot further to fall though if they f**k this up.

This doesn't appear to be about money. By all accounts Lewis was being paid market rate, and we're not taking about losing a guy coming off contract. This has nothing to do with Elliott and Learys negotiating skills. Lewis is giving up 2 years of guaranteed pay to the whims of the market, he's not doing this for cash.

I hate the talk of player unrest too, but how does losing a club leader like Lewis help? We can talk about "fixing" the Elliott culture but "fixing" in situations like this is building on the good and weeding out the bad. It doesn't mean burning down everything and starting again. We're not talking about a known trouble maker here.

The only culture based justification so far has been vague thoughts about how this is necessary to get rid of this so called player power that exists. Who here is part of the playing group to know anything about that? Why are people so sure this isn't just Gould and Cleary bringing a tank to a gunfight?

Gotta agree with your comments about doing culture change the wrong way.

I suppose all you can say is that Gould is paranoid and Cleary has a glass jaw.

So they will do it their way and it's a clean out.

They will get results in a few years but it certainly won't be because they showed Luke Lewis the door.

It's probably best for Luke to get out and go somewhere where he is appreciated. Plenty of clubs will line up.

Taking the captaincy away from him mid-season was a line in the sand.

A waste of a proud club man imo.

When petero left didn't he have some things to say, albeit in his extremely professional way, about the way the club was being run?

I find it a little hypocritical that the Panthers say they look to their juniors and Windsor..ie local talent to build a premiership force but Luke Lewis is now after a decade and being a local talent himself not wanting to stay. I feel like he is a scapegoat for the past years under Elliott well at least based on external opinions.

Surely him being there gives the younger kids extra motivation to stay at the club. Extra motivation to play under him as skipper. I can't see how this is a positive move for Penrith in any way.

That's 5 years. Same as Elliot got to "turn us around"

I'll have a fair idea at the end of next year and 2014 of where this is heading but imo

Why are we waiting 5 year is it so we can have a excuse for running last. Then change coaches and do it all againCronulla have showed it can be done straight away with smart buys not by buying nsw cup players and losing the only good quality players we have

I think things will get better. Our signings for next year have been good with what appears to be average funds. I think Gould has a much better idea of a players true value than Leary ever did, which is great for the long term. Cleary is a better coach than Elliott, and the juniors appear to have turned the corner.

But this will forever be the black mark against their tenure, not the necessary pain that turned things around.

Cleary being a better coach is not clear yet.We are runnung second last and look like a team that meet on the bus on the way to the game same as under elliottThe coach that is prepared to change the halfback will be the one that is better as yet it is more of the same
