Tbf more games in Brisbane does make sense, just that this isnt the way to do it! It is RL so give it a couple of years and it’ll be abandoned anyway.

If the Saturday line up looks good we’ll probably fly over for it (Storm v Cronulla on sat night please :) )

Not if it comes at the expense of games in developing markets. QLD and Sydney get plenty of footy. More regional games or new markets should have these sort of events

What I posted was speculation. You and your fellow fanbase who are oddly the main ones objecting to this event, are jumping to wild conclusions as though the entire schedule is somehow already locked away and Penrith have been shortchanged or some such bullshit.

It's not locked in yet apart from Manly hosting Brisbane on Friday, at all.

You gotta look through Gus speak to find the agenda. Gus has gotten in early to ensure we aren't a home team. He has the profile to do this not all do. There will be other's as more details become announced.

Oh and Magic Weekend?

Well it’s this really cool concept we’ve “copied” from England where you play all that round’s games at one venue. The first NRL version will be played in Brisbane. Some argued it should be played in Adelaide or Perth. Fact is, it will get to Adelaide and it will get to Perth. For now, the NRL is patiently waiting to see just how many millions of dollars rolls into the local Queensland economy from interstate fans before it puts forward a proposal to South Australia or Western Australia.

The great man Phil Gould is one totally against Magic Weekend in Brisbane.

But he doesn’t want it shifted to a rugby league outpost to grow the game. He wants it back in Sydney at ANZ Stadium.

Yeah, nah. Let’s not and say we did.

Sorry rugby league. You’re just not pretty enough to share with the rest of the world.

Or maybe, just maybe, rugby league itself isn’t the problem.

I agree, Phil can shove it up his clacker.

You wouldn't attempt this in Sydney. That does not mean you should move games away from suburban venues that are drawing well. They should have canvassed clubs who were happy to do this, rather than forcing it down their throats.

The NRL wants fans to buy memberships but forces a reduction in what that membership buys. It is like the Government decreeing that a litre of petrol would now be 900ml, without the price changing.
They do this every week when they put the petrol up by 20c

Manly are hosting? Is that confirmed? So Brisbane aren't? I understand Manly having to make money on the game but fair dinkum, the donkeys have to host one as well, it's their home ground, Manly can host someone else.

It's literally just the double header they do with six other games tacked on.

Will be interesting to see how this is received in Brisbane - are the locals likely to turn up for any matches not involving the Broncos? Even at the double header this year there wasn't much enthusiasm at the ground for the Storm/Titans match, two clubs that supposedly have a decent QLD following.

I'm not sure if it would work any better in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth or Auckland - eight games in one weekend is a lot even for the RL diehards. Perhaps on one of the AFL's half-bye weekends it could do well at AAMI Park, if you had the Storm, Broncos and Warriors each "anchoring" a different day.

You’d be better having two events with 4 games at each on same weekend in Adelaide and Perth. I don’t think it would work as is in either city, that’s a lot of commitment expected from a small fanbase to turn out three days in a row.
Alternatively play 4 double headers in a weekend. Sydney, auckland, Perth and Brisbane.

Bite the bullet and give all clubs 11 home games each with 2 'event' rounds.

'On the Road round' - Round 1 - All games played outside of NSW & QLD (Maybe Auckland & Melbourneas well). Either elsewhere in Australia/NZ or internationally. Double headers optional. Round 1 so clubs can 'start early' if they play in UK, North America etc.

'Country round' - Mid-Origin - All games played in cities/areas that don't host an NRL team. Capital cities excepted.

Eirher that or leave it as is. Taking home games from some but not others isn't the way to do it.

This defeats the whole purpose.
It is like some sort of economy of scale type thing or positive externality type thing (some sort of economics thing).
With everyone in one place the event is greater than the sum of the parts. With everyone involved the QLD government gets involved and the NRL can market it like origin or the GF. If you split it up into double headers or quad headers you get nothing extra out of it. It doesnt have any gravity.

We’ll see, the proof of the pudding will be in if tens of thousands of fans flock to Brisbane for it. I’m not sure it will happen given the cost and apathy of RL fans.

You would have to wonder if going for one fantastic weekend they are sacrificing others? To make it worthwhile it requires a heap of travellers from NSW, Melbourne, NZ, NQ etc. Flights, Accom, Tickets and spending money would average at least $500 per person. So instead of going to potentially 7-8 games locally, even getting a full year membership, they are going to 1 or 2 days of matches? Is banking on one weekend to the detriment of others?

So why not play someone else. Brisbane should host a game, it's at their home ground.
Well the obvious answer is that it's in order to maximise the number of games played in Brisbane.

Essentially, the less games played in Sydney the better.

Lets assume they get full houses

Broncos Friday main
Nth Qld Saturday main game
Gold Coast Sunday main game

Is 156k higher than a normal Round 9 8 game attendance total ?
