Magic Weekend 2019 - Suncorp

Why would the other teams and fans want to attend Suncorp Stadium after the Donkeys play in their harsh and unfair Friday night timeslot? They normally need to drain the ground after each game because the Donkeys fans can't control their bladders...

I can't imagine the other teams' players would be keen on a game of water polo...

I just don't know what's been achieved by this? Is it growing the game? I'm not sure it really is.
I can only assume the City of Brisbane has paid a lot of money for this to be worthwhile to the game.

Meanwhile, I am not convinced this surface will be able to sustain 8 games, when it struggles getting through 1 at that time of year normally.

I am probably going to go up for the weekend
I may even make it a weeks holiday and visit friends on the Sunshine Coast while I am there
Depends on school etc

If there are discount tickets for multiple days that would be the best option for me

We should all head down to Movie world as well. Man thats a fun place.

I've got no problem with the concept. Can you criticise the NRL for trying something when the fans weren't going to show up anyway? Isn't one of the main faults identified with the NRL is that they're only ever reactive.

The Swans had 36402 attend their game on the weekend and the NRL games in Sydney only drew a combined 35236 between 4 games.

I live in the Northern Territory and I'll be in attendance with at least 4 mates which I think maybe the target audience but should they market it correctly maybe in conjunction with the indigenous round and schedule games like Storm v Warriors, Broncos v Cowboys or Dragons v Sharks then it should be a success.

Dragons v sharks in Brisbane?

As long as it’s the Dragons home game then sure.
I wouldn’t set foot in any of their shithole home grounds anyway.

Except if phil speaks truth..it's broncos not the city of brisbane who killed crushers. ..according to lu most of brisbane hates broncos so why ignore those fans. I understand his concern..i mean theres only 100 plus games a season in Sydney for fans to latch on to. ..us people in seq should be grateful for the dregs we get.
I think you will find Gould was referring to the Broncos and not speaking on behalf of the Brisbane population.

As someone else posted above, it's by way of apology to Qld in lieu of the GFs lost when the NRL rolled over and took it up the ass over the grounds re-build.

It is attempting to build an event and take games out of Sydney where there are far too many games going off the poor crowds.
Hopefully it is extremely successful and prompts a second Brisbane team and helps make it even harder for AFL to survive in Brisbane.

As long as they take the games that have previously drawn poorly and not marquee games like derbies and such.

If it were going to lead to a second Brisbane team I'd be all for it.

I was about to say "Pot calling Kettle black....." then I realised that you were joking - because the Dragons don't own a ground

f**king hell there's some really hopeless sad cases that call themselves rugby league fans. I think it'll be a good weekend and will generate a fair bit of excitement and press around the NRL.

Face it if they did this in Sydney it would be embarrassing.

They did this back in 1977 at the SCG over a weekend when Anzac Day fell on the Monday.

The Saturday Penrith played Balmain and Souths played Canterbury for a crowd of 12,579.

On the Sunday Saints played Norths and West’s played Parramatta for a crowd of 21,051.

On the Monday Manly played Easts and Newtown played Cronulla for a crowd of 32,463.
